Senior GCP Systems & Hybrid Infrastructure Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior GCP Systems & Hybrid Infrastructure Engineer to oversee and optimize our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) production environment and hybrid disaster recovery (DR) infrastructure. This critical role will focus on administering GCP resources, managing hybrid connectivity, and ensuring the seamless operation of both Windows Server and Enterprise Linux (SLES/RHEL) virtual machines. The successful candidate will serve as the primary infrastructure coordinator, collaborating closely with SAP/DB2 administrators, Nutanix and Veeam administrators, and our local IT team to maintain high availability and performance across all systems.

In addition to technical responsibilities, this position will play a key role in upskilling our internal team over the next 12 months, providing hands-on training and guidance to ensure they can independently manage cloud and hybrid infrastructure by the end of the contract period.

Key Responsibilities

GCP Environment & Dual-OS VM Administration

• Serve as the primary administrator for our GCP organization, overseeing IAM policies, VPC networks, Cloud Firewalls, and storage configurations to ensure optimal security and performance.
• Manage, secure, monitor, and apply patches to virtual machines running on both Windows Server and Enterprise Linux (RHEL/SLES) platforms, ensuring compliance with enterprise standards.
• Optimize cloud resource utilization, including CPU, memory, and storage, to enhance the performance of database and ERP workloads hosted on GCP.
• Implement and maintain proactive cloud monitoring and alerting using Google Cloud Operations Suite to proactively identify and resolve potential issues before they impact operations.

Hybrid DR Networking & Infrastructure Ownership

• Own and manage the cloud-side termination of hybrid connectivity solutions, including Cloud VPN and Interconnect, to ensure secure and reliable connectivity between GCP and our on-premises datacenter.
• Maintain and update network routes and firewall rules to secure DB2 HADR replication and Veeam backup traffic, ensuring data integrity and minimal latency.
• Act as the technical lead during disaster recovery testing, coordinating failover processes and validating infrastructure readiness to ensure seamless business continuity.

Technical Collaboration & Team Upskilling

• Collaborate with SAP/DB2 administrators to optimize OS resource allocation, kernel parameter tuning, and storage block layout for both Windows and Linux instances, ensuring alignment with enterprise workload requirements.
• Lead the enablement of our internal IT team through structured training programs, including hands-on sessions and weekly shadowing, to build expertise in managing Windows and Linux cloud instances independently.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

Cloud Infrastructure

• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in enterprise GCP administration, including expertise in compute, storage, and hybrid networking configurations.

Operating Systems

• Extensive experience in administering both Windows Server and Enterprise Linux (SLES/RHEL), including automated OS-level patching, command-line operations, and scripting using Bash and PowerShell.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Strong understanding of hybrid backup replication patterns and enterprise restore workflows, with practical experience using Veeam for data protection and recovery.

This role is based in Saudi Arabia and requires on-site presence. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex cloud and hybrid environments, a commitment to operational excellence, and a passion for mentoring and developing technical talent.
