About Us

We are at the forefront of revolutionizing last-mile delivery through the development of cutting-edge autonomous vehicles. Our autonomous electric vehicles are meticulously engineered to navigate the complexities of urban environments with precision, transforming the logistics of groceries, food, and parcels into a seamless and efficient experience. By empowering businesses to operate beyond traditional constraints, our vehicles enable round-the-clock delivery, setting a new standard for modern logistics. Our multidisciplinary team comprises engineers, researchers, and vehicle specialists who are dedicated to advancing autonomous vehicle technology from controlled test tracks to real-world applications.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated Field Engineering Intern to join our autonomous vehicle team for a six-month period. This hybrid position offers a unique opportunity to engage in both hands-on vehicle operations and software development. As an intern, you will split your time between monitoring autonomous vehicles during on-road and closed-course testing and contributing to the development and maintenance of the software and tools that ensure our fleet operates efficiently. This role is ideal for engineering students who are eager to gain practical experience in autonomous systems while also honing their software and systems engineering skills. Given the physical nature of the responsibilities, this is an on-site, full-time position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Monitoring and Safety: Serve as a trained safety driver during autonomous vehicle testing, prepared to take manual control at any moment to ensure operational safety.
  • Test Protocol and Safety Enhancement: Assist in refining test protocols, safety procedures, and pre-drive checklists to maintain the highest standards of operational integrity.
  • Real-Time System Analysis: Monitor vehicle behavior and system performance in real time, identifying, documenting, and reporting disengagements, edge cases, and anomalies to the engineering team.
  • Data Collection and Annotation: Collect, log, and annotate data from test drives to support the autonomy and engineering teams in refining vehicle algorithms and performance.
  • Software and Tool Development: Contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of vehicle software and internal tools, including logging pipelines, diagnostics dashboards, fleet-monitoring systems, and test-management platforms.
  • Issue Triage and Debugging: Assist in triaging and reproducing issues, collaborating with software and autonomy engineers to debug and resolve technical challenges.
  • Vehicle Maintenance Support: Perform routine vehicle readiness tasks such as sensor checks, calibration, and basic diagnostics to ensure optimal performance.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and the continuous improvement of day-to-day field procedures to enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or C++.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems and version control systems like Git.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong situational awareness, and the ability to remain composed and focused under pressure.
  • A genuine passion for autonomous systems, robotics, or self-driving technology.

The following qualifications are considered advantageous but not mandatory:

  • Academic or practical experience with robotics frameworks such as ROS, control systems, or sensor technologies including LiDAR, radar, and cameras.
  • Experience in building internal tools, scripting, or working with data-analysis pipelines.
  • Familiarity with vehicle systems, embedded software, or CAN bus protocols.

What You'll Gain

This internship offers a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the dynamic field of autonomous vehicle technology. You will gain direct, hands-on experience driving and supporting real autonomous vehicles, working alongside seasoned engineers who will provide mentorship and guidance. Additionally, you will have the chance to see your software and process improvements implemented and utilized by the team on a daily basis, making a tangible impact on the future of autonomous logistics.
