Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining the hospital’s infrastructure, supporting seamless healthcare delivery, and upholding compliance with local and international accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Biomedical Specialist will play a pivotal role in the hospital’s engineering services, with a focus on the following core functions:

  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Ensure the timely and efficient repair of all biomedical equipment and appliances, adhering to established policies, procedures, and industry best practices to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
  • Preventive Maintenance Programs: Implement and execute a robust Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) scheme for all biomedical equipment, performing scheduled tasks at prescribed intervals to proactively identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
  • Inventory and Spare Parts Management: Maintain optimal stock levels of critical spare parts and components by conducting regular reviews, coordinating with the stores and purchasing departments, and ensuring timely procurement to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Equipment Procurement and Upgrades: Participate in the evaluation, assessment, and planning for the acquisition of new biomedical equipment or the upgrading of existing systems. This includes preparing detailed cost estimates, feasibility reports, and recommendations to support informed decision-making.

  • Contract Management: Oversee external contracts related to biomedical equipment, including monitoring contractor performance, reviewing work completed, and ensuring adherence to contractual obligations and quality standards.
  • Medical Gas Systems Management: Monitor and maintain medical gas systems across the hospital, ensuring a consistent and uninterrupted supply to all clinical areas. This includes procuring medical gases, conducting system audits, and addressing any operational or safety concerns.
  • Budget Preparation and Financial Oversight: Collaborate with the biomedical supervisor to develop the annual budget for engineering services, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effective management of departmental expenditures.
  • Performance Monitoring and Data Analysis: Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for the department, collect and analyze relevant data, and interpret findings to measure the effectiveness of processes, functions, and outcomes. Utilize insights to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Actively participate in the hospital’s Safety Management and Risk Management Programs. Report incidents promptly, contribute to root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks and enhance patient and staff safety.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with clinical and administrative teams to facilitate the requirements of the Medical Equipment Management Program, ensuring that all equipment-related processes support organization-wide functions and adhere to regulatory standards.
  • Ad Hoc Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Manager, leveraging your expertise to support the hospital’s evolving needs and operational goals.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in Biomedical Technology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in biomedical engineering, with at least three (3) years of recent, hands-on experience in a healthcare institutional setting. Prior exposure to hospital environments, clinical equipment, and regulatory compliance is highly desirable.
  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of biomedical equipment systems, maintenance protocols, and safety standards. Familiarity with medical gas systems, diagnostic equipment, and hospital infrastructure is essential.
