Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operator - Control Room to join our dynamic team at a state-of-the-art Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the continuous monitoring, operation, and optimization of our power generation systems, ensuring maximum efficiency, reliability, and compliance with all regulatory and contractual obligations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in mechanical or electrical engineering, extensive experience in control room operations, and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Operator - Control Room will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of the plant, with responsibilities spanning monitoring, coordination, reporting, and emergency response. Your duties will include:
- Monitoring & Control:
- Continuously monitor all aspects of power generation systems, including gas turbines, steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and auxiliary systems, with a focus on electrical high-voltage operations.
- Operate and adjust control systems to optimize plant performance while ensuring strict adherence to operational limits and efficiency targets.
- Leverage advanced Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to maintain real-time oversight of plant operations and respond to dynamic conditions.
- Dispatch Coordination:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for dispatch instructions from the Load Dispatch Centre (LDC), ensuring timely and accurate implementation of directives.
- Adjust generation levels in real-time to align with demand fluctuations while strictly adhering to the terms outlined in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
- Data Recording & Reporting:
- Maintain meticulous records of operational parameters, performance metrics, and generation data to support data-driven decision-making.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive reports on plant performance, operational incidents, and regulatory compliance to senior management and relevant authorities.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all established safety protocols and procedures to foster a secure working environment for all personnel.
- Actively participate in safety audits, drills, and training programs, and promptly report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor.
- Collaborate with the Shift Charge Engineer to execute isolations and prepare Permit-to-Work (PTW) documentation as required.
- Serve as a key member of the emergency response team, demonstrating leadership and composure during critical situations.
- Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving:
- Identify and diagnose operational issues in collaboration with technical staff and field operators, implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance system reliability, efficiency, and overall plant performance.
- Team Collaboration & Training:
- Work closely with maintenance, engineering, and operational teams to support the plant’s reliability and performance objectives.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior operators and new staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure full compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and operational guidelines at all times.
- Participate in regulatory reviews and inspections to uphold industry standards and maintain the plant’s operational integrity.
Qualifications & Requirements
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and possess the requisite experience:
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the power generation industry.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience as a Control Room Operator in the operations and maintenance of Combined Cycle Power Plants.
- Demonstrated experience with Siemens Gas Turbine (GT) based CCGT operations is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of combined cycle power generation processes, including regulatory considerations and contractual obligations under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
- Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and advanced monitoring tools.
- Languages:
- Proficiency in English is essential for effective communication and documentation.
- Knowledge of Arabic is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Physical & Other Requirements:
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-pressure environment and manage emergency situations with composure and efficiency.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure uninterrupted plant operations.
- Capable of performing duties primarily in a control room setting, with occasional visits to plant facilities for inspections or coordination.
