Chemist
الوصف الوظيفي
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chemist to join our team, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and compliant operation of our water treatment and chemical management systems. In this critical position, you will oversee water quality management, conduct comprehensive chemical analyses, and maintain rigorous safety and environmental standards. Your expertise will be instrumental in optimizing plant performance, supporting operational reliability, and driving continuous improvement through research and development initiatives. This role requires a proactive professional with a strong background in chemical analysis, regulatory compliance, and collaborative problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
Water Quality Management
You will be responsible for managing water treatment programs for cooling water, boiler feed water, and wastewater treatment systems. This includes ensuring strict adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements. Your duties will involve conducting regular water quality tests to monitor critical parameters such as pH levels, conductivity, alkalinity, and other chemical properties. Based on your analyses, you will make timely adjustments to treatment processes to maintain optimal water quality and system efficiency.
Chemical Analysis and Testing
Your expertise will be utilized in performing both quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses on a variety of samples, including fuels, lubricants, and process fluids. This role requires developing and validating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory analyses to ensure consistency, accuracy, and reliability in all testing activities. Your analytical skills will be essential in maintaining optimal operating conditions across the plant.
Chemical Inventory and Management
You will oversee the procurement, storage, and handling of all chemicals used in the plant, ensuring full compliance with safety regulations and environmental guidelines. This includes maintaining an adequate stock of chemical consumables, glassware, and dosing and testing equipment to guarantee uninterrupted laboratory services. Additionally, you will track and document chemical usage, maintaining precise inventory records to support efficient operations.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance
Adherence to all relevant health, safety, security, and environmental procedures is a cornerstone of this role. You will ensure that all chemical processes and waste management practices comply with stringent environmental regulations and standards. Your responsibilities will include preparing required reports and documentation for environmental audits and regulatory agencies, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
Collaboration with Operations and Maintenance
You will work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to provide chemical insights and recommendations that enhance plant performance and reliability. Your involvement in troubleshooting efforts and root cause analyses (RCAs) will be vital in addressing chemistry-related issues that impact plant operations. This collaborative approach ensures that chemical management is integrated seamlessly into broader operational strategies.
Safety and Training
Promoting a strong safety culture within the plant is a key aspect of this role. You will ensure that all chemical handling and laboratory practices adhere to rigorous safety protocols. Additionally, you will provide training and guidance to plant personnel on chemical safety, handling procedures, and environmental practices, fostering a culture of awareness and accountability.
Research and Development
To drive continuous improvement, you will stay updated on advancements in chemical processes and technologies that can enhance plant efficiency and environmental performance. Your research will focus on developing improved chemical treatment methods and processes, contributing to the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of our operations.
Documentation and Reporting
Accurate record-keeping is essential in this role. You will maintain meticulous records of all laboratory analyses, chemical usage, compliance checks, and results. Your periodic reports will summarize chemical performance, compliance status, and recommendations for process improvements, providing valuable insights for decision-making and strategic planning.
Pre-PCOD Role Support
In the pre-PCOD (Pre-Commercial Operation Date) phase, you will support the Owner during the design review, installation, commissioning, testing, and trial operation periods. This includes reviewing and finalizing O&M (Operations and Maintenance) manuals, preparing site-specific procedures and work instructions, and ensuring that the maintenance team is authorized as permit receivers. You will also facilitate the timely placement of subcontracts and ensure that the laboratory and chemistry management systems are fully prepared for operational readiness. This involves training staff and implementing all necessary systems and processes required for seamless O&M operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in chemical analysis and laboratory operations, with a preference for candidates with a background in power generation or industrial chemical settings.
- Technical Expertise: A strong understanding of chemical properties, water treatment processes, and environmental regulations pertinent to power plants is essential.
- Analytical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation for chemical analyses, including titrations, spectroscopy, and chromatography, is required.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental regulations related to water quality and chemical management, as well as industry best practices, is necessary.
