Position Overview

We are seeking a meticulous, analytical, and driven Database Administrator Trainee to join our Data Platform team through the Tamheer Program. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about solving intricate technical challenges, analyzing system behaviors, and working with data to uncover insights into the inner workings of critical technology platforms. As a DBA Trainee, you will immerse yourself in production-scale database environments, gaining practical experience in database design, performance monitoring, optimization, security, backup, and recovery processes. This position demands precision and accountability, as even minor configuration errors or query mistakes can have significant consequences. We are looking for a candidate who approaches tasks methodically, validates their work rigorously, asks insightful questions, and maintains composure when troubleshooting technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will collaborate closely with seasoned Database Administrators, Data Engineers, and Platform Engineers to execute a wide range of technical responsibilities, including:

  • Query Development and Optimization: Write, review, and optimize SQL queries to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Performance Analysis: Analyze database performance metrics to identify slow or inefficient queries and recommend improvements.
  • Database Monitoring and Health Checks: Support ongoing monitoring efforts, conduct health checks, and perform capacity analysis to ensure optimal database performance.
  • Backup, Recovery, and High Availability: Assist in database backup procedures, recovery operations, replication strategies, and high-availability configurations to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Incident Investigation: Participate in root cause analysis for database-related incidents and contribute to preventive measures.
  • Benchmarking and Configuration Analysis: Conduct benchmarking exercises to compare database configurations, queries, and technologies, ensuring the best possible performance.
  • Automation Development: Utilize Python to develop scripts that automate repetitive database and operational tasks, enhancing efficiency and reducing human error.
  • Data Validation: Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data through systematic validation processes.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, performance findings, and actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Documentation Support: Contribute to the documentation of database standards, operational procedures, and best practices to maintain a robust knowledge base.

Requirements
