Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Curriculum Specialist to join our academic team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, coordination, and continuous evaluation of the curriculum for our PhD Biomedical Sciences programs. Your expertise will ensure that our programs maintain the highest academic standards, align with accreditation requirements, and provide students with a rigorous and cohesive learning experience. This position requires a blend of strategic planning, administrative acumen, and strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with faculty, administrators, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Design and Management: Lead the planning, structuring, development, and ongoing management of the curriculum for the PhD Biomedical Sciences programs. Ensure that the curriculum remains current, relevant, and aligned with industry standards and accreditation benchmarks.
- Committee Participation and Secretariat Support: Actively participate in Curriculum Committee meetings, providing comprehensive secretariat support. This includes preparing agendas, documenting minutes, and ensuring timely follow-up on action items to maintain operational efficiency.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate closely with course instructors, module leads, and thesis supervisors to facilitate coherent course delivery. Serve as a liaison to ensure that academic objectives are met and that faculty and students have the necessary resources and support.
- Curriculum Documentation and Updates: Assist in the formulation and periodic updating of course descriptions, syllabi, learning outcomes, and graduate study guides. Ensure that all academic materials are accurate, accessible, and reflective of the latest educational standards.
- Academic Scheduling and Logistics: Organize and schedule lectures, seminars, laboratory sessions, and research skills workshops for each academic term. Manage the allocation of research laboratories, facilities, and specialized equipment to support program requirements.
- Learning Management System (LMS) Administration: Upload and maintain all learning materials on the LMS (such as Moodle or equivalent platforms). Support the development of web-based and blended learning resources to enhance the educational experience.
- Assessment Coordination: Assist in the preparation and logistics of qualifying examinations and other PhD milestone assessments. This includes scheduling, coordinating with examiners, and managing records to ensure compliance with academic policies.
- Curriculum Mapping and Alignment: Coordinate curriculum mapping initiatives to ensure alignment between learning outcomes, teaching methods, and assessment tasks across all PhD coursework. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity and coherence of the academic program.
- Accreditation and Compliance: Lead curriculum review cycles and prepare comprehensive documentation required for accreditation submissions to regulatory bodies such as NCAAA, WFME, or equivalent organizations. Ensure that all programs meet the stringent criteria set by these accrediting agencies.
- Policy and Handbook Management: Manage and update the PhD program handbook and all academic policy documents related to the curriculum. Ensure that these resources are current, compliant with institutional policies, and readily available to faculty and students.
- Policy Adherence: Strictly adhere to all hospital-related policies and procedures to maintain compliance with institutional standards and regulatory requirements.
- Professional Development: Engage in continuous learning and professional development opportunities to stay abreast of trends in medical education, curriculum design, and accreditation processes. Support the education and training of colleagues as applicable.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall mission and objectives of the academic programs.
Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this role, candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Training & Education, Health Administration, Medical Education, Health Education, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of four years of relevant experience is required, with a proven track record in curriculum development, academic administration, or a related field. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic environment.
