Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Lead Engineer – Mechanical to oversee and drive the mechanical maintenance operations within our facility. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive maintenance strategies, leading a dynamic team of engineers and technicians, and ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of all mechanical systems and equipment. This position requires a strong technical background, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a high-stakes industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Maintenance Lead Engineer – Mechanical will play a critical role in maintaining operational excellence by fulfilling the following responsibilities:
- Maintenance Planning & Execution:
- Develop, implement, and oversee inspection, maintenance, and repair schedules for all mechanical systems and equipment, including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, condensers, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, and ancillary equipment.
- Ensure the availability of necessary tooling and third-party certifications to support maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align maintenance schedules with operational requirements, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of mechanical maintenance engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support for troubleshooting mechanical issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal operational disruption.
- Conduct in-house training sessions to enhance the technical skills and safety awareness of the maintenance team.
- Perform root cause analysis for mechanical failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Project Management:
- Plan, execute, and oversee mechanical maintenance projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with operations, electrical, and instrumentation teams to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize operational impact.
- Budget & Resource Management:
- Assist the Maintenance Manager in preparing the annual maintenance budget and allocate resources effectively to meet organizational goals.
- Monitor maintenance expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement strategies to optimize spending without compromising safety or reliability.
- Procurement & Inventory Management:
- Ensure adequate inventory levels of spare parts and consumables, and facilitate timely procurement to support maintenance operations.
- Prepare and evaluate purchase requisitions for spare parts and consumables, conducting technical assessments of supplier quotations to recommend optimal procurement decisions.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure strict adherence to environmental regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices across all maintenance activities.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and implement safety improvement initiatives to maintain a secure working environment.
- Verify compliance with corporate and site-specific procedures, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and inventory levels.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on maintenance performance, project status, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for management review.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of mechanical maintenance operations.
- Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in mechanical maintenance to drive innovation.
- Pre-PCOD (Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning, and Operation Demonstration) Role:
- Support the Owner during the design review phase, installation, commissioning, testing, and trial operation periods.
- Review and finalize O&M manuals, initial spare parts lists, and master equipment lists.
- Develop and implement a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to streamline maintenance processes.
- Identify critical equipment and develop maintenance strategies based on criticality assessments.
- Prepare site-specific maintenance procedures and work instructions, ensuring compliance with project agreements and EPC contracts.
- Ensure the maintenance team is authorized as permit receivers and that all subcontracts are placed in a timely manner.
- Verify that all staff are adequately trained and that systems and processes required for operations and maintenance are fully operational.
- Ensure the plant is designed, built, commissioned, and tested in accordance with EPC contracts and other project agreements, and is ready for operational handover.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance, with a focus on large-scale combined cycle power plants.
- Prior experience with Independent Power Producers (IPP) and Siemens gas turbine systems is highly preferred.
- Leadership Skills:
- Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing maintenance teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in mechanical maintenance systems, reliability engineering, and condition monitoring techniques.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting complex mechanical issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Software Knowledge:
- Familiarity with maintenance management software and tools is essential.
- Certifications & Compliance:
- Relevant certifications in mechanical engineering, safety management, or project management are advantageous.
- Commitment to maintaining compliance with all regulatory and corporate safety standards.
