Role Overview

Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) is actively seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This critical role will be responsible for managing daily financial recording and reconciliation activities essential to our refining operations. The Accountant will ensure the accurate maintenance of the general ledger, support the monthly financial closing process, and uphold strict compliance with Saudi tax regulations. This position plays a pivotal role in assisting the Finance Manager in generating timely and precise financial statements that accurately reflect the cost of refining processes and the valuation of bullion inventory.

The Accountant will report directly to the Finance Manager and will serve as a key contributor to maintaining financial integrity across both operational and corporate functions. This role demands a meticulous professional capable of managing VAT compliance, conducting inventory reconciliations, and providing payroll support within a highly regulated industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Accountant will be entrusted with the following core financial management and compliance responsibilities:

  • General Ledger Management: Maintain the general ledger by posting accurate journal entries for refining costs, bullion inventory movements, and corporate expenses to ensure financial transparency and accuracy.
  • Tax Compliance: Calculate and file monthly and quarterly VAT returns through the ZATCA portal, ensuring full compliance with Saudi tax laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Inventory Reconciliation: Reconcile physical bullion and dore inventory counts with system records, promptly identifying and resolving any discrepancies to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Monthly Close Support: Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for critical accounts, including cash, inventory, and accrued liabilities, to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Fixed Asset Management: Maintain the fixed asset register and calculate depreciation for plant equipment, laboratory instruments, and corporate assets to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Audit Preparation: Prepare audit schedules and retrieve supporting documentation for external auditors during interim and final audits, facilitating smooth and efficient audit processes.
  • Cost Accounting Support: Allocate refining costs, including chemicals and energy, to specific production batches to ensure accurate cost of goods sold reporting and financial analysis.

Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or trading environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Saudi VAT regulations and hands-on experience with ZATCA filing requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in general ledger accounting, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Proven experience with inventory accounting and cost allocation methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory for reporting and communication purposes, with working proficiency in Arabic considered a valuable asset.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are considered advantageous for candidates:

  • Prior experience in the precious metals, mining, or commodities trading sector.
  • Professional accounting certification such as SOCPA, CPA, or ACCA.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, including SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Familiarity with LBMA financial reporting requirements or precious metal valuation standards.
  • Experience with fixed asset management in a heavy industrial or plant environment.

Success Metrics

The Accountant is expected to achieve the following performance benchmarks:

  • Ensure 100% on-time filing of VAT returns through the ZATCA portal.
  • Maintain zero material discrepancies in bullion inventory reconciliations.
  • Support the timely completion of monthly financial close processes with 100% accuracy.
  • Facilitate seamless external audits through the timely preparation of audit schedules and documentation.
  • Contribute to the optimization of refining cost allocation and inventory valuation processes.
