Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Engineer to join our team and ensure the highest standards of safety, health, and environmental compliance across our construction projects. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and maintaining robust EHS management systems in alignment with ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 9001 standards. This position requires a strong commitment to fostering a culture of safety, proactive risk management, and continuous improvement to safeguard all personnel and project operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Documentation and Compliance: Prepare and maintain all EHS-related documentation, including EHS plans, emergency response plans, risk assessments (RA), method statements, and environmental management plans. Ensure these documents are updated and aligned with regulatory and organizational requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Attend and actively participate in EHS meetings with clients, project teams, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on safety protocols, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance requirements.
- Training and Awareness: Deliver comprehensive EHS induction training to new workers and conduct regular toolbox talks to reinforce safety awareness. Organize and facilitate training programs on EHS topics for engineers, supervisors, and workers, both on-site and through HR-organized initiatives.
- Site Inspections and Risk Management: Conduct daily EHS inspections within assigned zones to identify hazards, unsafe practices, and non-compliance issues. Perform risk assessments for critical activities and ensure method statements incorporate findings. Implement corrective actions to mitigate high-risk areas and prevent incidents.
- Safety Protocols and PPE Enforcement: Ensure all personnel adhere to safety protocols by verifying the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, EHS shoes, and coveralls. Inspect and maintain equipment like ladders and scaffolding to ensure they are in safe working condition before use.
- Health and Hygiene Oversight: Monitor and maintain satisfactory health and hygiene conditions on-site, including the availability of clean water, rest areas, adequate lighting, and proper ventilation. Promote good housekeeping practices to minimize hazards and prevent accidents.
- Incident Management: Investigate minor and major incidents or accidents in collaboration with engineers and project teams. Document findings, communicate results to relevant personnel, and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence. Administer first aid or coordinate medical assistance in case of worker injuries.
- Permit and Audit Coordination: Facilitate the implementation of the work permit system and coordinate external EHS audits and third-party inspections of equipment. Conduct monthly risk management audits and quarterly system audits to evaluate EHS performance and compliance.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans, including conducting emergency drills to ensure preparedness for potential crises. Prepare condition-of-contract clauses on EHS for subcontractors to ensure their compliance with safety standards.
- Reporting and Communication: Provide regular EHS reports to the Project Head and IC Head to keep them informed of current EHS performance, trends, and areas requiring improvement. Advocate for a proactive safety culture by encouraging workers and engineers to adopt EHS best practices and intervene immediately in unsafe situations.
Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate should possess a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, along with relevant certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or ISO standards. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in EHS management within the construction or industrial sector is preferred. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders are essential. Proficiency in developing and implementing EHS management systems, conducting audits, and managing risk assessments is critical. The candidate must demonstrate leadership, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to fostering a safety-first culture.
