Ultrasound Technologist

Job Purpose and Objective

As an Ultrasound Technologist, your primary responsibility is to conduct ultrasound procedures with precision to capture detailed anatomical images for diagnostic interpretation and interventional purposes. You will ensure the production of high-quality images that are accurately archived and readily accessible for clinical review. Your role is integral to the diagnostic process, supporting radiologists and healthcare teams in delivering accurate patient care.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Ultrasound Technologist is accountable for performing a wide range of ultrasound imaging procedures across all specialty areas. Your duties include:

• Image Acquisition and Management: Record patient images using appropriate archival media and transfer them as required to ensure seamless access for medical professionals. Print images onto suitable media and maintain permanent records of procedures as mandated by departmental or regulatory standards.
• Quality Assurance and Equipment Maintenance: Maintain rigorous quality control records, participate in routine equipment testing, and ensure all ultrasound systems meet operational standards. Assist in diagnosing malfunctions and perform minor repairs, escalating issues to specialized technicians when necessary.
• Collaboration with Radiologists: Review clinical patient information alongside captured images in collaboration with radiologists to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Patient Care and Safety: Adhere to strict sterile techniques, maintain aseptic conditions, and implement universal precautions to safeguard patient health. Provide first aid in emergencies and ensure patient confidentiality is upheld at all times.
• Departmental and Professional Standards: Uphold departmental quality assurance controls, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements, including KSA and local standards, as well as JCIA and CBAHI accreditation criteria. Participate in performance improvement initiatives and person-centered care programs to enhance patient experience.
• Staff Training and Education: Train new staff members on ultrasound system operations and departmental protocols to ensure consistency and proficiency across the team.
• Administrative Duties: Complete and maintain accurate records, logs, and reports of all procedures performed. Adhere to on-call, holiday, and weekend schedules as assigned by management.
• Patient and Family Education: Provide education to patients and their families as needed, ensuring they understand procedures and post-care instructions.
• Compliance and Professionalism: Exercise compassion, respect, and dignity in all patient interactions while adhering to ethical and professional standards. Contribute to initiatives that enrich the patient experience and support the hospital’s mission.

Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology or Ultrasonography from an accredited institution.
• Experience: Possess a minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience in a hospital or clinical ultrasound setting, demonstrating proficiency in a variety of ultrasound modalities.
• Technical and Soft Skills: Exhibit strong technical skills in operating ultrasound equipment, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in maintaining equipment, troubleshooting issues, and adhering to safety protocols is essential.
• Certifications and Compliance: Meet all professional and regulatory standards, including adherence to KSA, local, and international accreditation requirements such as JCIA and CBAHI.
