Join Unilever’s Jeddah Factory as a SHE Engineer and play a pivotal role in advancing our Zero Harm ambition. In this position, you will champion the implementation of Unilever’s SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) Standards, ensuring full compliance with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) regulations while fostering a robust safety culture across all operational shifts and production lines. Key Responsibilities
As a SHE Engineer, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of critical functions designed to uphold and enhance safety, health, and environmental standards within the factory environment. Your core duties will include:
- Implementation and Compliance: Lead the execution of Unilever’s SHE Standards and local legal requirements, including risk assessments, permits-to-work, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine safety protocols, and contractor management systems. Ensure these standards are consistently applied across all operational areas.
- Risk Assessment Leadership: Conduct or support comprehensive SHE risk assessments, such as Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), and ergonomic evaluations. Drive the timely closure of identified actions to mitigate risks effectively.
- Incident Management: Oversee the reporting, investigation, and analysis of incidents and near-misses. Facilitate corrective and preventive action plans to prevent recurrence and promote continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze SHE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including injury rates, near-miss occurrences, audit results, and inspection findings. Develop and implement improvement plans to enhance safety outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Training and Development: Deliver engaging SHE inductions, training sessions, coaching, and toolbox talks for employees and contractors. Empower teams with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
- Project Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Human Resources, to integrate SHE considerations into all projects and capital expenditures (capex), ensuring that safety is embedded from the design phase.
- Audit and Compliance: Participate in internal and external audits to verify adherence to Unilever’s SHE Standards and regulatory requirements. Address findings proactively to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with various departments to embed SHE principles into daily operations, fostering a culture of shared responsibility and accountability for safety across the Jeddah Factory.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a discipline related to Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE), or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
- Experience: Prior experience in a SHE or Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) role within a manufacturing or factory setting is highly desirable. A strong understanding of operational environments and their associated risks will be advantageous.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth familiarity with KSA occupational safety, health, and environmental regulations, ensuring that all practices align with local legal requirements.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities and a data-driven approach to decision-making, enabling you to identify trends, assess risks, and implement effective solutions.
- Communication and Influence: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage, coach, and influence stakeholders at all levels, including across different shifts and departments.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and Arabic to facilitate clear and effective communication with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following qualifications will enhance your candidacy for this role:
- Certification in NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC).
- Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Certificate.
