About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Control Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the financial success of our projects by meticulously managing budgets, monitoring expenditures, and conducting thorough cost variance analyses. Your expertise will be instrumental in identifying potential cost overruns, recommending corrective actions, and optimizing resource allocation to maintain project profitability and alignment with our financial objectives. This position requires a proactive approach to cost control, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive financial discipline across all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

The Cost Control Engineer will be responsible for a range of critical tasks, including:

  • Budget Development and Management: Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to develop and maintain accurate project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial objectives and project scope.
  • Expenditure Monitoring: Track and analyze project expenditures in real-time, comparing actual costs against approved budgets to identify variances and potential cost overruns.
  • Variance Analysis and Reporting: Conduct detailed variance analyses to pinpoint deviations from planned costs, providing actionable insights and recommendations to mitigate financial risks and enhance project efficiency.
  • Financial Performance Reporting: Prepare and present periodic financial performance reports, including budget vs. actual analyses, cost forecasts, and trend assessments to support informed decision-making.
  • Risk Identification and Mitigation: Support the identification of cost-related risks and opportunities, contributing to the development of robust mitigation strategies to safeguard project profitability.
  • Policy and Procedure Adherence: Ensure strict adherence to cost control procedures, company financial policies, and regulatory requirements to maintain compliance and operational integrity.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with project teams, including engineering and procurement, to integrate cost control activities with project objectives, fostering a culture of financial accountability and efficiency.
  • Cost Tracking and Documentation: Maintain and update cost tracking systems, ensuring accurate and timely recording of project expenses, change orders, and financial transactions.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance cost control processes, adopting industry best practices and innovative tools to drive operational excellence and cost efficiency.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Support HSE initiatives and ensure full compliance with company safety policies and Integrated Management Systems (IMS) to uphold our commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.

Required Skills and Knowledge

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with cost estimating tools such as CCS (Candy) is highly desirable. Familiarity with cost management, estimation, and change control processes is essential.
  • Software Competency: Strong proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, is required. Knowledge of Primavera P6 is considered an advantage for project scheduling and cost integration.
  • Resource Planning: Experience in multi-project resource planning, with the ability to allocate and optimize resources effectively to meet project demands.
  • Project Management Acumen: A solid understanding of project management principles and techniques, enabling seamless integration of cost control activities with project execution.
  • ERP Systems: Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, particularly SAP, is a valuable asset for financial data management and reporting.

Experience and Education

Candidates for this role should meet the following criteria:

  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in cost control, project finance, or a closely related field, with a proven track record of delivering financial discipline in project environments.
  • Regional Experience: Experience working in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is advantageous, given the unique financial and operational dynamics of projects in this area.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required to ensure a strong technical foundation for cost analysis and project management.
