Database Administrator

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator to join our client’s team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation, security, and optimization of enterprise database systems. The Database Administrator will serve as an individual contributor, responsible for the full lifecycle of database management, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, backup, recovery, and compliance. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in relational databases and a strong commitment to maintaining high availability, reliability, and data integrity in alignment with industry best practices and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Database Administrator will be tasked with the following core responsibilities:

• Database Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and administer enterprise database systems to meet operational and business requirements, ensuring optimal performance from deployment.
• Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Proactively monitor database performance, availability, capacity, and health, identifying bottlenecks and implementing tuning strategies to enhance efficiency and responsiveness.
• Availability and Reliability Management: Ensure database systems meet agreed-upon Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and IT Service Management (ITSM) processes, maintaining high availability and minimizing downtime.
• Backup, Recovery, and Restoration: Develop, implement, and oversee robust backup and recovery procedures to safeguard critical data and ensure rapid restoration in the event of disruptions, supporting business continuity objectives.
• Security and Access Management: Implement and maintain stringent database security controls, access management policies, and data integrity measures to protect sensitive information and comply with regulatory requirements.
• Incident and Problem Management: Provide expert support for incident, problem, and change management activities related to database services, including root cause analysis and resolution of performance issues.
• Database Upgrades and Patches: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, test, and deploy database upgrades, patches, and version enhancements in accordance with change management protocols.
• Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of database configurations, operational procedures, and compliance evidence to support audit, governance, and regulatory requirements.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with application development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and vendor teams to align database strategies with broader IT and business objectives.
• Capacity Planning and Forecasting: Support strategic capacity planning efforts by analyzing usage trends, forecasting future requirements, and recommending scalable solutions to accommodate growth.
• Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Participate in disaster recovery (DR) planning, testing, and documentation to ensure rapid recovery of database services in the event of a catastrophic failure, minimizing business impact.
• Policy and Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all database operations comply with SRC IT policies, industry standards, and applicable regulatory frameworks, maintaining a secure and compliant environment.

Required Skills & Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in database administration or a related technical capacity, with a proven track record in enterprise database environments.
• Database Expertise: Extensive experience administering relational databases, including but not limited to Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies, replication techniques, and high availability architectures.
• Performance Optimization: Demonstrated ability to analyze, tune, and optimize database performance to meet evolving business demands.
• Security and Compliance: Solid understanding of database security principles, access control mechanisms, and data protection best practices.
