Position Overview

Weatherford is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Engineer III – Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) to join our dynamic team in Saudi Arabia. This critical role is designed for professionals who possess a deep understanding of MPD operations and are committed to delivering exceptional results in high-pressure environments. The Field Engineer III will be responsible for overseeing and executing MPD projects, ensuring operational excellence, safety compliance, and technical precision. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge drilling solutions while collaborating with a global team of industry experts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Lead MPD operations on-site, providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to project objectives, timelines, and budgets. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders to facilitate seamless project execution.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge of MPD techniques, including constant bottomhole pressure (CBHP), pressurized mud cap drilling (PMCD), and dual-gradient drilling (DGD), to optimize wellbore stability and minimize non-productive time (NPT). Troubleshoot complex operational challenges and implement innovative solutions to enhance drilling efficiency.
  • Safety and Compliance: Champion a culture of safety by enforcing Weatherford’s rigorous safety protocols and industry regulations. Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety audits to mitigate potential risks and ensure a secure working environment for all personnel.
  • Equipment and System Management: Oversee the installation, calibration, and maintenance of MPD equipment, including rotating control devices (RCDs), chokes, and data acquisition systems. Verify equipment functionality to prevent operational disruptions and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Monitor real-time drilling parameters, pressure trends, and wellbore conditions using advanced monitoring tools. Generate detailed reports on operational performance, identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement. Present findings to management and clients to drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Training and Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers and field personnel, fostering a collaborative learning environment. Conduct training sessions to enhance team competencies in MPD operations, emergency response protocols, and equipment handling.
  • Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients by demonstrating technical proficiency, responsiveness, and a commitment to exceeding expectations. Address client concerns proactively and provide strategic recommendations to optimize drilling performance.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in MPD operations are highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in MPD operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Prior work in the Middle East, particularly in Saudi Arabia, is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MPD software, pressure control systems, and wellbore stability analysis tools. Familiarity with industry standards such as API, ISO, and IADC guidelines.
  • Certifications: Valid MPD certification (e.g., IADC WellSharp MPD) and relevant safety certifications (e.g., IADC HSE Rig Pass, NEBOSH).
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership abilities. Ability to thrive in fast-paced, multicultural environments with a strong focus on teamwork and accountability.

Work Environment and Travel

The Field Engineer III – MPD will operate in demanding onshore and offshore environments, often in remote locations. The role requires flexibility to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate operational demands.
