Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned and technically proficient Senior System Administrator with specialized expertise in Microsoft infrastructure to oversee the design, implementation, administration, and support of our enterprise-level Microsoft environments. The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience in managing critical Microsoft technologies, including Active Directory, Windows Server, Exchange Server, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), ADFS, identity and access management, PKI, virtualization, endpoint management, and enterprise mobility solutions. This role demands a high degree of ownership over Microsoft infrastructure operations, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our digital ecosystem while fostering seamless collaboration across departments.
Core Responsibilities
The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for the following key areas:
- Microsoft Infrastructure & Active Directory:
- Design, deploy, and maintain Microsoft Active Directory services, including Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, domain controllers, and failover clustering.
- Administer Windows Server environments across both physical and virtual infrastructures, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and capacity.
- Monitor server health, manage patching and hardening processes, and coordinate backup operations to maintain operational readiness.
- Identity, Access & Authentication Services:
- Configure and maintain Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) and Azure AD Connect to enable secure single sign-on solutions.
- Administer Microsoft Entra ID, including user and group management, role-based access control (RBAC), and identity governance.
- Implement and support Privileged Access Management (PAM) to enforce secure administrative access models and align with cybersecurity policies.
- Exchange & Microsoft 365 Administration:
- Manage Microsoft Exchange Server environments, including Database Availability Groups, mail flow, connectors, and hybrid deployments.
- Administer Microsoft 365 services, including user licensing, service configuration, and compliance reporting.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity and application teams to ensure email security, service continuity, and operational excellence.
- PKI & Certificate Services:
- Oversee Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Certificate Authority (CA) services, including certificate issuance, renewal, revocation, and monitoring.
- Support certificate-based authentication across enterprise systems and maintain comprehensive PKI documentation and standards.
- Virtualization & Infrastructure Platforms:
- Manage Hyper-V and VMware virtualization platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, and storage connectivity.
- Support hyperconverged infrastructure platforms such as Nutanix where applicable.
- Coordinate with infrastructure, network, and backup teams to uphold service availability and disaster recovery readiness.
- Automation & Operational Support:
- Develop and execute PowerShell automation scripts to streamline repetitive operational tasks and reporting.
- Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability.
- Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, operational procedures, and configuration records.
- Endpoint & Enterprise Mobility Management:
- Administer enterprise mobility solutions, including Ivanti EPMM, MobileIron, and VMware Workspace ONE (AirWatch), to ensure secure and efficient device management.
Qualifications & Experience
To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following:
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in administering Microsoft infrastructure, with a focus on Active Directory, Windows Server, and Microsoft 365.
- Strong expertise in identity and access management, including ADFS, Azure AD Connect, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Proficiency in virtualization technologies, such as Hyper-V, VMware, and hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.
- Experience with PKI and certificate services, including implementation and lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with enterprise mobility management solutions, such as Ivanti EPMM, MobileIron, or VMware Workspace ONE.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, or equivalent, are highly desirable.
