With a workforce exceeding 89,000 professionals, we maintain an expansive network of over 2,600 offices and laboratories strategically positioned worldwide. Our commitment to excellence drives us to deliver unparalleled services across diverse industries, ensuring compliance, safety, and reliability for our clients.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the comprehensive commissioning of mechanical systems within data center environments. Your expertise will be pivotal in ensuring the operational readiness, efficiency, and safety of these sophisticated facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of mechanical systems, integrated testing methodologies, and adherence to stringent industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical System Commissioning: Lead the commissioning of critical data center mechanical systems, including chillers, Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH)/Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC) units, Coolant Distribution Units (CDU), cooling towers, pump skids, and pipework redundancy systems (A/B paths). Ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of these systems to support data center operations.
  • HVAC Testing and Validation: Conduct thorough functional and integrated testing of HVAC systems under varying IT load conditions, including full and partial load simulations. Validate thermal performance and ensure systems meet design specifications and operational requirements.
  • Heat Load Testing: Perform heat load testing and thermal performance validation to confirm the efficiency and reliability of mechanical systems under real-world operating conditions. Identify potential inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions to enhance system performance.
  • Fire and Life Safety Systems: Oversee the commissioning of fire and life safety systems within data centers, including Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA), clean agent systems (Novec/FM-200), fire alarms, and interlocks with Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Integrated Life-Safety Testing: Execute integrated life-safety testing during Integrated Systems Testing (IST) scenarios to validate the functionality and interoperability of safety systems. Confirm that all systems operate cohesively to mitigate risks and protect personnel and assets.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of NFPA standards, local civil defense regulations, and international best practices. Ensure all commissioned systems adhere to these requirements to maintain operational integrity and legal compliance.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university, providing a solid foundation in mechanical systems and engineering principles.
  • Experience: Possess a minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong emphasis on commissioning, testing, and validation of mechanical systems in data center or similar high-availability environments.
  • Technical Proficiency: Exhibit hands-on experience with chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, CDUs, cooling towers, pump skids, and pipework redundancy systems. Familiarity with HVAC testing, heat load validation, and fire/life safety systems is essential.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of NFPA standards, local civil defense regulations, and international codes governing data center operations and safety systems.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrate exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify issues, propose solutions, and ensure systems operate at peak efficiency.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders. Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and concisely is critical.
