Role Overview
GSK Saudi Arabia is dedicated to advancing Vision 2030 and the Saudi Arabian National Agenda, with a strong emphasis on Saudization through strategic hiring, training, and the development of local talent. As a key contributor to this mission, the Group Medical Manager (GMM) plays a pivotal role in shaping the medical strategy and ensuring the highest standards of scientific integrity, compliance, and stakeholder engagement. This office-based position, with up to 20% field presence, is responsible for overseeing the therapeutic area portfolio, leading high-performing medical teams, and guiding the asset lifecycle from pre-registration through post-launch. The GMM ensures that all medical activities are conducted with fairness, balance, and scientific rigor, fully aligned with GSK’s global standards and local regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
The Group Medical Manager is tasked with leading and driving the performance of Medical Managers and Medical Science Liaison (MSL) teams. This involves developing and implementing comprehensive medical plans, setting clear objectives, and establishing priorities that support Medical Affairs Plans (MAPs) and agreed-upon metrics. The role requires a deep understanding of assigned therapeutic areas, including the scientific value of associated brands, and collaboration with R&D functions to support clinical development initiatives. The GMM will build and nurture effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that teams remain aligned with strategic plans, budgets, development initiatives, and training requirements. Additionally, the GMM will coach and mentor MSL teams to foster excellence in scientific engagements while ensuring adherence to business and reporting standards, including the use of medical systems and tools.
Medical Strategy and Engagement
In this capacity, the GMM will analyze global and local clinical practice dynamics within assigned therapeutic areas, including competitive landscapes, to consolidate and verify medical insights that inform Medical Affairs strategies. The role involves monitoring the development and execution of MAPs across therapeutic areas and serving as the primary scientific advisor to internal stakeholders. The GMM will lead the development of therapeutic area strategies, processes, and capabilities to optimize scientific engagement with external experts. Furthermore, the role supports patient-focused engagement initiatives in partnership with relevant functions and ensures the timely recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development of team members.
Evidence Generation and R&D Collaboration
The Group Medical Manager will identify local evidence gaps and propose evidence generation initiatives, carefully considering budgetary constraints. Collaboration with relevant functions is essential to drive local publications and identify opportunities to bring R&D projects to the local operating company (LOC) in accordance with GSK’s processes and governance frameworks.
Medical Governance and Compliance
Ensuring compliance with GSK standards, policies, local codes of practice, regulations, and laws is a critical responsibility. The GMM will act as the focal point for management monitoring, internal audits, and inspections within assigned therapeutic areas, executing corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) in a timely manner. The role involves overseeing team commitments, ensuring the completion of medical governance tasks, and contributing to the identification of risks and mitigation plans related to assigned therapeutic areas or the broader medical department.
Pharmacovigilance
The GMM will ensure that pharmacovigilance training requirements are met for both the self and the team. The role involves reflecting pharmacovigilance requirements in all internal and external scientific engagements and supporting pharmacovigilance audits and inspections within respective therapeutic areas.
Role Complexity
Operating within a complex healthcare ecosystem, the Group Medical Manager will navigate an evolving decision-making environment that includes regulators, formularies, and reimbursement bodies. The role requires working across multiple therapeutic areas while building strong partnerships with business, access, and regulatory stakeholders. The GMM must manage deliverables and performance with clarity and prioritization, upholding GSK’s stringent standards for medical governance and compliance in a dynamic and challenging landscape.
