Key Responsibilities

The Heavy Truck Driver will perform a variety of duties to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of freight. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Safe Operation: Operate heavy trucks (Class 8 or equivalent) in compliance with traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations to ensure the secure transportation of goods.
• Pre-Trip Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify and report any mechanical issues, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
• Load Management: Secure and balance cargo using appropriate equipment and techniques to prevent shifting during transit, maintaining compliance with weight and load distribution regulations.
• Route Planning: Plan and follow efficient routes while considering factors such as delivery schedules, traffic conditions, and weather to minimize delays and maximize productivity.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records, including delivery receipts, logbooks, and maintenance reports, in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
• Customer Interaction: Represent GST INTERNATIONAL professionally by providing courteous and efficient service to customers, clients, and receiving personnel during loading and unloading operations.
• Emergency Response: Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, breakdowns, or accidents, including coordinating with dispatchers, emergency services, and maintenance teams as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Licensing: Valid Heavy Truck Driver’s license (Class 8 or equivalent) with a clean driving record and no major traffic violations.
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience operating heavy trucks, preferably in a logistics, transportation, or freight delivery environment.
• Knowledge: Familiarity with DOT regulations, local traffic laws, and safety protocols, including proper load securement and vehicle maintenance procedures.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, as well as the stamina to handle long-haul driving schedules.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in using GPS systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and basic vehicle diagnostics to ensure efficient and compliant operations.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with dispatchers, customers, and team members.
• Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to assess situations quickly and make sound decisions to resolve issues, such as route deviations or mechanical concerns.
