Key Responsibilities

The Polysomnography Technologist II is responsible for performing a wide range of sleep studies, including overnight polysomnography, multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT), and maintenance of wakefulness tests (MWT). Your duties will encompass the following:

• Patient Preparation and Monitoring: Ensure patients are properly prepared for sleep studies, including electrode placement, sensor attachment, and equipment calibration. Monitor patients throughout the night to collect accurate data on brain waves, oxygen levels, heart rate, and breathing patterns.
• Data Collection and Analysis: Record and analyze physiological data during sleep studies, identifying abnormalities or irregularities that may indicate sleep disorders. Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings for review by sleep medicine physicians.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine checks and maintenance on polysomnography equipment to ensure optimal functionality. Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate with biomedical engineering teams for repairs when necessary.
• Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about sleep study procedures, expected outcomes, and post-study care instructions. Address any concerns or questions to ensure patient comfort and cooperation.
• Collaboration and Compliance: Work closely with sleep medicine physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans. Adhere to hospital policies, infection control protocols, and safety standards to maintain a secure and sterile environment.
• Continuing Education: Stay updated with the latest advancements in sleep medicine and polysomnography technology. Participate in professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and certification programs, to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Qualifications and Skills

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Polysomnography, Respiratory Therapy, or a related field. Alternatively, a diploma in Polysomnography with relevant work experience may be considered.
• Certification: Certification as a Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or eligibility to obtain certification within a specified timeframe. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Experience: Minimum of two years of experience as a Polysomnography Technologist, with a proven track record in conducting sleep studies and analyzing data. Experience in a hospital or clinical setting is highly desirable.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong technical skills in operating polysomnography equipment, including EEG machines, pulse oximeters, and respiratory monitors. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems is an advantage.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities are essential.
• Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Arabic is preferred but not mandatory.
