Key Responsibilities
As a Cost Engineer within our Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial integrity and efficiency of our projects. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Develop accurate cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts for projects, ensuring alignment with client requirements and organizational objectives. Utilize industry-standard methodologies and tools to provide reliable financial projections.
- Cost Control & Monitoring: Implement robust cost control measures to track expenditures, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions to mitigate financial risks. Maintain real-time visibility into project costs to support informed decision-making.
- Procurement Support: Collaborate with procurement teams to evaluate vendor bids, negotiate contracts, and ensure cost-effective sourcing of materials and services. Analyze market trends to optimize procurement strategies.
- Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential cost overruns and develop mitigation plans. Proactively address challenges to safeguard project profitability and schedule adherence.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed cost reports, variance analyses, and financial presentations for stakeholders, including clients, senior management, and project teams. Ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, and finance professionals, to align cost management strategies with project goals. Foster a culture of transparency and accountability across all levels.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance cost efficiency through process optimization, technology adoption, and best practices implementation. Contribute to the evolution of our cost management frameworks.
Qualifications & Experience
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PMP, CCP) is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in cost engineering, project controls, or a similar role within the energy, construction, or industrial sectors. Experience in a PMC environment is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in cost estimation software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project, SAP), spreadsheet tools (Excel, Power BI), and financial modeling. Familiarity with industry standards such as AACE International’s Recommended Practice No. 18R-97 is advantageous.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and translate insights into actionable strategies. A proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
- Communication & Leadership: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse audiences. Demonstrated leadership in driving cost-saving initiatives and fostering team collaboration.
