Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The Accountant-General will play a critical role in the financial management of Marriott International’s Jeddah operations. Core responsibilities include:

• Financial Reporting and Compliance: Prepare and review accurate, timely, and compliant financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local regulatory requirements. Ensure adherence to Marriott’s global accounting policies and procedures.
• General Ledger Management: Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and reconciled promptly. Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent financial discrepancies.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with senior management to develop, monitor, and analyze annual budgets and financial forecasts. Provide strategic insights to optimize resource allocation and improve financial performance.
• Tax Compliance and Planning: Manage tax filings, including VAT, corporate tax, and other statutory obligations, while identifying opportunities for tax efficiency and compliance optimization. Stay abreast of evolving tax regulations to mitigate risks.
• Audit Support: Facilitate internal and external audits by providing comprehensive documentation, responding to audit inquiries, and implementing corrective actions as required. Ensure audit findings are addressed promptly to maintain operational integrity.
• Financial Analysis and Decision Support: Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement. Present actionable insights to stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
• Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide guidance on best practices and professional development opportunities for team members.
• Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership, department heads, and external stakeholders. Communicate complex financial information in a clear, concise, and accessible manner to facilitate strategic discussions.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, or CMA) is highly desirable.
• Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role within the hospitality, finance, or corporate sector. Experience in a multinational or global organization is a plus.
• Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or Hyperion) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Familiarity with ERP systems and financial reporting tools is essential.
• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical abilities to interpret financial data, identify trends, and resolve complex issues. Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy are critical.
• Communication and Leadership: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels. Demonstrated leadership in managing teams, driving process improvements, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
• Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of local and international accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations. Ability to navigate compliance requirements and adapt to regulatory changes.
• Cultural Adaptability: Experience working in a diverse, multicultural environment with a global mindset. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is advantageous.
