ED III Civil/Structural Designer

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ED III Civil/Structural Designer to join our dynamic team at John Wood Group PLC, based in Saudi Arabia. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for leading and contributing to the design and development of civil and structural engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality designs within tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Leadership: Lead the civil and structural design aspects of projects from conceptualization to completion, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of design elements.
• Technical Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles to develop innovative and efficient design solutions. Utilize industry-leading software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and ETABS to create detailed drawings, models, and calculations.
• Compliance and Standards: Ensure all designs adhere to local and international codes, including Saudi Building Code (SBC), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and other relevant standards. Conduct thorough reviews to validate compliance and mitigate risks.
• Design Optimization: Optimize structural designs for cost-effectiveness, constructability, and sustainability without compromising safety or performance. Evaluate alternative materials and construction methods to enhance project outcomes.
• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports. Maintain accurate records of design changes, approvals, and revisions to support project audits and client deliverables.
• Stakeholder Communication: Act as a liaison between the design team and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities. Present design proposals, address inquiries, and resolve technical issues in a clear and professional manner.
• Quality Assurance: Implement robust quality control processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of design deliverables. Conduct peer reviews, perform site inspections, and verify as-built conditions to uphold the highest standards of engineering excellence.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in civil and structural engineering. Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of design methodologies within the team.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PE, CEng) is highly desirable.
• Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in civil/structural design, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity. Experience in the oil and gas, industrial, or infrastructure sectors is preferred.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETABS, SAP2000, and STAAD.Pro. Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and 3D modeling tools is a plus.
• Certifications: Valid professional engineering license or certification relevant to the role.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
• Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in Arabic is advantageous.
