Position Overview

Batterjee Medical College is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Simulation Laboratory Technician to enhance the delivery of clinical skills and simulation-based education within the General Medicine Program. This critical role will involve the preparation, operation, and maintenance of advanced simulation equipment, ensuring that students receive high-quality practical training in a controlled and realistic environment. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to supporting educational excellence in medical training.

Key Responsibilities

The Simulation Laboratory Technician will play a pivotal role in facilitating effective learning experiences through the following responsibilities:

  • Simulation & Teaching Support:
    • Prepare and configure simulation sessions, including manikins, task trainers, and audio-visual systems, to meet the educational objectives of the General Medicine Program.
    • Operate simulation equipment during teaching sessions and assessments, such as Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), ensuring seamless execution.
    • Collaborate with faculty to deliver simulation-based learning methodologies, including case-based learning (CBL) and scenario-based training.
    • Provide guidance and support to students during clinical skills practice in a simulated environment, fostering confidence and competence.
  • Equipment & Systems Management:
    • Operate and maintain high-fidelity simulators and task trainers to ensure optimal performance during training sessions.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues related to simulation software and hardware, minimizing downtime and disruptions.
    • Manage simulation software, including scenario development, updates, and system configurations, to align with academic requirements.
    • Maintain accurate inventory records of simulation equipment and consumables, ensuring availability and readiness for scheduled sessions.
  • AV & Control Room Operations:
    • Manage audio-visual systems, including recording and playback functionalities, to document and review simulation sessions effectively.
    • Support control room operations during simulations and assessments, ensuring all systems function as intended.
    • Monitor and maintain cameras, microphones, and monitoring systems to capture high-quality data for educational and assessment purposes.
  • Safety, Maintenance & Compliance:
    • Ensure all simulation equipment is safe, functional, and regularly maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and institutional policies.
    • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols within simulation labs to create a secure environment for students and faculty.
    • Support internal audits and ensure compliance with academic and accreditation standards, including documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Administrative & Coordination:
    • Coordinate simulation schedules with faculty and academic departments to align with curriculum demands and assessment timelines.
    • Maintain comprehensive logs, reports, and documentation for simulation sessions and equipment usage.
    • Assist in the organization and execution of OSCEs and other clinical examinations, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.

Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Technology, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Possess prior experience in simulation labs, clinical labs, or technical support roles, with a preference for candidates with hands-on exposure to simulation equipment or AV systems.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of IT systems, troubleshooting, and networking, enabling effective maintenance and support of simulation technologies.
  • Exhibit strong technical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Show exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Possess the ability to work under pressure during live simulations and assessments, maintaining composure and focus.
  • Display effective communication and teamwork skills, collaborating seamlessly with faculty, students, and administrative staff.
  • Adopt a problem-solving mindset, proactively identifying and addressing challenges to enhance the learning experience.
