Key Responsibilities

As the cornerstone of our safety initiatives, the Safety Officer will oversee a wide range of critical functions to ensure a secure and compliant working and learning environment:

• Compliance and Policy Enforcement: Ensure strict adherence to occupational health and safety policies, institutional procedures, and all applicable regulatory standards, including those mandated by the Saudi Occupational Safety and Health Cadres.
• Facility Safety Inspections: Conduct comprehensive and regular safety inspections across all campus areas, including classrooms, laboratories, offices, technical spaces, and specialized facilities, to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
• Risk Management and Hazard Control: Perform detailed risk assessments, maintain an up-to-date risk register, and implement corrective actions to address identified hazards. Monitor high-risk activities such as hot work, electrical work, and maintenance operations to ensure adherence to safety protocols and permit requirements.
• Fire Safety Leadership: Oversee the monitoring, inspection, testing, and maintenance of all fire protection systems, including fire extinguishers, alarm and detection systems, emergency lighting, hoses, hydrants, and suppression systems. Coordinate with external vendors to ensure all systems meet certification standards and remain operational.
• Emergency Preparedness and Response: Lead and coordinate emergency response strategies, evacuation procedures, fire drills, and comprehensive emergency preparedness activities. Develop and refine contingency plans to ensure swift and effective action during critical incidents.
• Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis: Thoroughly investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, identify root causes, and recommend actionable corrective and preventive measures to prevent recurrence.
• Safety Training and Awareness: Design, deliver, and facilitate safety training sessions, workshops, and awareness programs tailored to employees, students, and contractors. Promote a culture of safety through continuous education and engagement.
• Contractor and Stakeholder Coordination: Ensure that all external contractors comply with occupational health, safety, and fire protection requirements. Collaborate closely with Maintenance, Security, Administration, and regulatory authorities to align safety efforts with broader institutional goals.
• Documentation and Audit Readiness: Maintain meticulous records of inspections, incidents, corrective actions, equipment checks, training sessions, and emergency drills. Ensure all documentation is organized, accessible, and audit-ready to support compliance efforts.
• Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance safety systems, procedures, and organizational practices to drive ongoing improvement in safety culture and performance.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a blend of technical expertise, leadership acumen, and a deep commitment to safety excellence. Below are the key qualifications we seek:

• Education: A diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related field. Advanced certifications in these areas are highly advantageous.
• Professional Certification: A valid professional classification under the Saudi Occupational Safety and Health Cadres (كوادر السلامة والصحة المهنية) is mandatory. Additional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or Fire Safety are preferred.
• Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience in occupational health and safety, with a strong emphasis on fire safety, risk assessment, emergency response, incident investigation, and workplace safety inspections. Experience within higher education, healthcare, or large institutional facilities is particularly valued.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of fire protection systems, hazard identification, emergency response protocols, and workplace safety regulations. Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in safety management is essential.

  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills to train, educate, and coordinate with diverse stakeholders, including staff, students, and external contractors.

  • Proficiency in both Arabic and English to facilitate clear and effective communication across all levels of the organization.
