IT Support Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and technically proficient IT Support Engineer to deliver comprehensive day-to-day IT support, application troubleshooting, and system maintenance. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting users within our Safety Systems environment, installing and managing SQL databases, and executing SQL queries to resolve critical issues. This position requires a strong analytical mindset, exceptional troubleshooting capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with software vendors and development teams to ensure seamless operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Support: Provide first and second-level technical assistance to users, addressing hardware, software, application, and system-related challenges with efficiency and professionalism.
• System and Application Maintenance: Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computers, software applications, and peripheral devices to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Troubleshooting and Error Investigation: Diagnose application errors, system failures, and performance issues, conducting thorough investigations to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
• Database Management: Execute SQL queries to validate application and database-related issues, identify data inconsistencies, and work closely with database teams to resolve discrepancies and optimize performance.
• Monitoring and Maintenance: Proactively monitor system and application errors, logs, services, and scheduled processes to prevent disruptions and ensure business continuity.
• Backup and Recovery: Perform basic database backup, restore, and maintenance activities to safeguard critical data and ensure data integrity.
• Safety Systems Support: Provide specialized support for Safety Systems and other business-critical applications, ensuring compliance with operational and security standards.
• Vendor and Team Coordination: Liaise with software development teams, vendors, and customers to escalate and resolve unresolved application and database issues, fostering collaborative problem-solving.
• Documentation and Reporting: Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring problems, document solutions, and maintain comprehensive IT documentation, troubleshooting procedures, and system records for future reference.
• Infrastructure Support: Assist in the management of user accounts, permissions, and access to IT systems, while supporting Microsoft Windows environments, networking infrastructure, printers, and other essential IT components.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of hands-on experience in IT Support, Application Support, or System Support roles.
• Proven expertise in troubleshooting complex technical issues with a methodical and analytical approach.
• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and computer hardware components.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN, and Wi-Fi protocols.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, particularly with SQL Server, including the ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries.
• Familiarity with relational databases and experience in diagnosing database-related issues.
• Experience in analyzing system logs, application logs, services, and utilizing basic troubleshooting tools to resolve issues efficiently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document technical solutions clearly and concisely.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and collaborate across teams to achieve organizational goals.
