Technical Support Engineer (Protection Engineering)

Key Responsibilities

• System Oversight and Maintenance: Take charge of managing and maintaining protection devices, including Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), across BESS containers, power conversion systems (PCS), and HV substations. Ensure all systems operate within optimal parameters to prevent disruptions.
• Protection Settings and Logic Management: Conduct thorough reviews and implement protection settings, logic diagrams, and coordination studies. This includes analyzing overcurrent, distance, differential, and other critical protection schemes to ensure system integrity and compliance with industry standards.
• Testing and Commissioning: Lead or supervise essential testing procedures such as secondary injection testing, Current Transformer (CT) and Voltage Transformer (VT) testing, and functional trip tests. Verify that all protection systems are calibrated and functioning as intended before and during commissioning phases.
• Fault Analysis and Reporting: Perform in-depth root-cause analysis for any protection trips or system disturbances. Develop comprehensive technical reports to document findings, provide actionable insights, and recommend corrective measures to prevent future occurrences.
• Client Interface and Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients regarding protection schemes. Demonstrate exceptional communication skills by explaining complex technical concepts, justifying protection settings, and addressing client inquiries during technical meetings and discussions.
• On-Site Technical Support: Address technical issues promptly and effectively on-site to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted system operation. Collaborate closely with site leaders to adhere to work arrangements and deliver timely solutions.
• Installation, Commissioning, and Maintenance: Oversee the installation, commissioning, repair, and maintenance of energy storage systems to ensure they meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience: Minimum of one year of hands-on experience in protection and control engineering, with a proven track record in troubleshooting and technical support.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of protection relays from leading manufacturers such as Siemens, ABB, GE, and SEL. Familiarity with substation protocols, including IEC 61850, Modbus TCP/IP, and DNP3, is essential. Understanding of protection requirements specific to battery systems is a significant advantage.
• Software Skills: Proficiency in industry-standard software tools, such as ETAP, for simulation, analysis, and design of protection systems.
• Communication: Fluency in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, including clients and internal stakeholders.
• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions under pressure.
• Team Collaboration: Capacity to work collaboratively in a team environment, adapt to evolving project requirements, and support cross-functional initiatives.

Work Environment and Expectations

This role may require travel to client sites for on-site support, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
