Senior Planning Engineer

Position Overview

AtkinsRéalis, a global leader in engineering services and infrastructure development, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Planning Engineer to join our dynamic team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This pivotal role demands a minimum of 10 years of management experience in project planning and control, with a strong focus on ensuring operational efficiency within the Consultant’s organization and across external stakeholder engagements. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in infrastructure projects, including roads, highways, utilities, bridges, rail, and other major civil infrastructure developments, with a proven track record of success in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Planning Engineer will play a critical role in driving project success through meticulous planning, scheduling, and strategic oversight. Core responsibilities include:

• Project Planning and Scheduling: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive project schedules using advanced tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project. Ensure schedules are resource-loaded and cost-loaded to align with budget forecasts and manpower planning requirements.
• Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Track project progress against baseline schedules, prepare performance metrics such as S-curves, histograms, and other KPIs, and report deviations with actionable recovery plans. Conduct in-depth schedule analysis to identify root causes of delays, assess critical path impacts, and support Extension of Time (EOT) claims as necessary.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, site engineers, subcontractors, contractors, and clients to gather accurate data, validate progress, and ensure strict adherence to project schedules. Facilitate seamless communication to resolve scheduling conflicts and mitigate risks.
• Risk Management and Mitigation: Analyze project risks related to scheduling and proactively propose mitigation strategies to prevent delays and disruptions. Ensure all planning activities comply with contractual and regulatory requirements while maintaining meticulous records for audits and project closeouts.
• Site Inspections and Schedule Adjustments: Conduct regular site inspections to verify actual progress against planned activities. Adjust schedules dynamically to reflect real-time conditions and maintain project momentum.
• Process Improvement and Innovation: Utilize advanced planning tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, and Excel to enhance schedule development, updates, and reporting. Recommend process improvements, adopt innovative tools, and stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging methodologies to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education and Certification: Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or other Project Controls-related credentials are highly desirable.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Planning and Controls, with a strong background in Project Management Consultancy (PMC). Extensive hands-on experience in infrastructure projects, including roads, highways, bridges, utilities, rail, airports, and other major civil works, is essential.
• Regional Expertise: Demonstrated experience working in Saudi Arabia, preferably on large-scale infrastructure projects, with a deep understanding of local regulations, industry standards, and operational dynamics.
