Role Overview

The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) is a critical, full-time position based in Medina, tasked with the oversight and management of the radiation safety program. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory and organizational standards while safeguarding the health and well-being of staff, patients, and the public. The RSO will play a pivotal role in monitoring radiation use, conducting regular safety audits, and maintaining meticulous records to uphold the highest standards of safety and compliance. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying potential risks, implementing corrective measures, and fostering a culture of safety across all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Program Oversight: Develop, implement, and maintain a robust radiation safety program that aligns with regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and international best practices.
• Compliance Management: Ensure adherence to all applicable regulations, licenses, and safety protocols through regular audits, inspections, and documentation reviews.
• Staff Training and Development: Conduct comprehensive training sessions for staff on radiation safety procedures, protocols, and emergency response measures to enhance awareness and compliance.
• Monitoring and Documentation: Oversee dosimetry monitoring programs, equipment calibration, and maintenance of accurate records to track radiation exposure and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Incident Investigation and Reporting: Lead the investigation of any radiation-related incidents or exposures, document findings, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Prepare detailed reports for management and regulatory authorities as required.
• Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with clinical and technical teams to promote a culture of safety, address concerns, and implement best practices across the organization.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for enhancing radiation safety practices, recommend process improvements, and stay abreast of advancements in radiation safety technology and regulations.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must possess a strong foundation in radiation safety management, supported by relevant education and professional experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and safety auditing, along with exceptional communication and organizational skills.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Medical Physics, Radiologic Technology, Health Physics, or a related discipline. Advanced certification in radiation safety is highly preferred.
• Experience: Proven track record in radiation safety management, with prior experience as an RSO or in a similar role within healthcare or diagnostic settings.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of radiation monitoring equipment, dosimetry programs, and compliance documentation processes.
• Analytical and Organizational Skills: Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations with a focus on delivering clear, actionable recommendations.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Arabic is an added advantage.
