About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Specialist Standards Engineer to join the Power Services team at Power and Water Corporation. This critical role is based in Darwin and is responsible for ensuring that our technical standards and specifications for the design, selection, installation, and construction of a diverse range of assets align with industry best practices while meeting stringent performance, safety, and compliance requirements. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of the Northern Territory’s Transmission and Distribution systems, as well as remote sites and minor centres.
Key Responsibilities
The Specialist Standards Engineer will be tasked with the following core duties:
- Development and Maintenance of Standards: Establish, review, and update technical standards and specifications to ensure they reflect current industry practices, regulatory requirements, and organizational objectives. This includes standard designs for both regulated and non-regulated network assets.
- Risk and Compliance Management: Assess and mitigate risks associated with asset performance, safety, and financial viability. Ensure all standards and specifications comply with relevant legislation, codes, and industry standards to uphold operational excellence and regulatory adherence.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, construction, and operations, to ensure seamless integration of standards across all projects and initiatives. Provide expert guidance and support to internal stakeholders to foster a culture of safety and reliability.
- Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement: Evaluate the effectiveness of existing standards and specifications, identifying opportunities for enhancement to drive efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability in asset management.
- Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical authority on standards-related matters, offering insights and recommendations to senior management and project teams to support informed decision-making.
Ideal Candidate Profile
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Education: A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional accreditation (e.g., Chartered Engineer or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in standards development, asset management, or a closely related field within the power or utilities sector. Experience in transmission and distribution systems is advantageous.
- Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including AS/NZS, IEC, and relevant local and international guidelines. Familiarity with asset lifecycle management and risk assessment methodologies is essential.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex technical data, identify trends, and propose practical solutions to enhance asset performance and safety.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. A collaborative mindset and a commitment to teamwork are vital.
- Regulatory Awareness: A thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks governing the power and utilities industry, including safety, environmental, and compliance requirements.

In return for your expertise, we provide a competitive remuneration package ranging from $159,831 to $189,392 per annum (including a base salary of $141,242 to $167,642).
