About the Role

In this pivotal role, you will play a critical part in ensuring seamless, high-performance communication between UAV flight systems, payloads, ground stations, and companion computers. Your expertise will drive the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of our autonomous platforms, enabling our clients to overcome complex operational challenges with confidence. As a Communication Engineer, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate, test, and validate communication protocols, ensuring flawless data transmission and system interoperability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Develop Advanced Communication Systems: Specify, implement, and validate communication architectures for UAVs and autonomous systems, focusing on telemetry, command-and-control, and data-link solutions.
  • Protocol Integration and Debugging: Work with embedded systems to integrate and troubleshoot communication protocols such as MAVLink, UART, SPI, CAN, RS485, Ethernet, and serial interfaces, ensuring seamless connectivity between flight controllers, ground stations, payloads, and companion computers.
  • Performance Optimization and Reliability: Diagnose and resolve communication issues, including latency, packet loss, interference, and range limitations, to enhance system performance and reliability in diverse operational environments.
  • Collaborative Engineering: Partner with firmware, hardware, and software teams to refine communication interfaces, protocols, and system integrations, fostering innovation and technical excellence.
  • Field Testing and Validation: Conduct rigorous field testing, validation, and reliability analysis to ensure communication systems meet stringent performance and safety standards.
  • Technical Documentation: Compile detailed documentation of communication architectures, test methodologies, and system behavior to support future development and troubleshooting efforts.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Five years of professional experience as a Communication Engineer with a specialization in UAV systems or autonomous platforms.

Core Skills and Competencies

Your expertise should include:

  • A deep understanding of embedded communication systems, UAV communication architectures, and wireless/digital communication fundamentals.
  • Proven experience in telemetry, command-and-control systems, and data-link protocols, with the ability to debug serial and network-based communication issues.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, enabling you to identify and resolve complex communication challenges efficiently.
  • The capacity to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including firmware, hardware, and software engineers, to drive system integration and innovation.

Preferred Skills and Experience

While not mandatory, the following will strengthen your candidacy:

  • Familiarity with MAVLink, UART, SPI, CAN, RS485, Ethernet, and serial protocol integration, as well as foundational knowledge of RF principles, antenna behavior, and link reliability concepts.
  • Experience with packet analysis and communication debugging tools, including EMI/EMC awareness.
  • Hands-on experience in UAV, robotics, defense, industrial, or autonomous systems, particularly in ground station and payload communication.
  • Field testing and range validation expertise, ensuring communication systems perform optimally in real-world scenarios.
