Commissioning Electrical Engineer – Drive Excellence in Electrical System Commissioning
At the forefront of ACWA Power’s mission to deliver cutting-edge energy solutions, the Commissioning Electrical Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless electrical system commissioning, adherence to industry-leading standards, and operational readiness. This dynamic position requires a highly skilled professional to oversee the execution of electrical commissioning activities, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and uphold the highest levels of safety, efficiency, and compliance. If you thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment and are passionate about electrical engineering, we invite you to contribute your expertise to our transformative projects.
Key Responsibilities
As a Commissioning Electrical Engineer, your responsibilities will span the entire spectrum of electrical commissioning, from planning and execution to documentation and handover. Your strategic contributions will ensure that every electrical system—ranging from switchgear and transformers to protection systems, cables, UPS, and auxiliary infrastructure—meets rigorous performance benchmarks and project specifications. Key duties include:
- Technical Leadership and Compliance: Provide critical technical input during tender and bidding reviews, ensuring that commissioning-related clauses in EPC contracts align with ACWA Power’s standards and project requirements. Review and validate EPC contractor commissioning procedures, test plans, and appendices to guarantee adherence to design specifications, industry codes, and ACWA Power’s best practices.
- Execution and Testing: Actively participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, conducting functional testing, loop checks, and troubleshooting under the guidance of the Senior Electrical Commissioning Manager. Perform thorough inspections and pre-commissioning checks to verify compliance with technical drawings, codes, and safety protocols. Record meticulous test results and compile comprehensive commissioning reports to facilitate smooth acceptance processes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster seamless coordination with design, construction, instrumentation and control (I&C), mechanical, and distributed control system (DCS) teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure system interoperability. Serve as a liaison between vendors, manufacturers, and project stakeholders, facilitating effective communication during testing and troubleshooting phases.
- Safety and Risk Management: Champion a culture of safety by implementing rigorous safety measures during electrical energization, testing, and commissioning activities. Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives to mitigate hazards and enhance operational resilience.
- Knowledge Sharing and Mentorship: Collaborate closely with the Senior Electrical Commissioning Manager and commissioning team members, sharing technical insights and best practices. Mentor junior engineers and technicians, empowering them to deliver high-quality commissioning tasks while aligning with project timelines and objectives.
- Documentation and Continuous Improvement: Support documentation reviews, including test reports, as-built drawings, and commissioning records, to maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation. Contribute to lessons learned by capturing challenges and solutions from ongoing projects, driving corrective measures and process enhancements to elevate future commissioning activities.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, you must possess a strong educational foundation and hands-on experience in electrical commissioning within the power or water industry. Ideal candidates will meet the following criteria:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with a focus on power systems or electrical infrastructure.
- Experience: 5–7 years of progressive experience in the power and/or water industry, with a minimum of 5 years dedicated to electrical commissioning roles on large-scale projects. Preference will be given to candidates with EPC-side commissioning experience or OEM testing background.
- Core Competencies: Demonstrated ability to ensure accountability, collaborate effectively, and drive results in a dynamic project environment. Strong leadership competencies, including talent development, vision alignment, and team-building, are essential for fostering a high-performing commissioning team.
- Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and auxiliary equipment. Familiarity with industry standards, safety regulations, and ACWA Power’s commissioning processes and best practices.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with diverse stakeholders, including EPC contractors, NOMAC operations teams, vendors, and project company representatives. Embrace innovation, integrity, and agility to navigate complex challenges and deliver sustainable solutions.
Join ACWA Power and be part of a team that is redefining the future of energy. Your expertise in commissioning electrical systems will not only ensure operational excellence but also contribute to the seamless delivery of world-class infrastructure.
