Role Overview

The Airport Systems Engineer ICT / ELV (Airport Experience) will play a pivotal role in the planning, design review, engineering coordination, supervision, testing, commissioning, and handover of advanced ICT, ELV, Security, and Special Airport Systems for airport infrastructure and aviation-related projects. This position demands extensive hands-on experience within airport environments and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, operators, consultants, contractors, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders. The successful candidate will ensure seamless project delivery while adhering to international and local standards, regulations, and best practices. Candidates without proven airport project experience will not be considered for this role.

Required Airport Project Experience

The ideal candidate must demonstrate prior involvement in one or more of the following airport project types:

• Airport Passenger Terminals
• Cargo Terminals and Logistics Facilities
• Airport Security Facilities
• Airside Infrastructure Projects
• Airport Expansion and Modernization Projects
• Airport Operational Readiness and Transition (ORAT) Activities
• Airport Systems Integration Projects

Technical Competencies and Systems Expertise

The candidate is expected to possess in-depth knowledge and practical experience in a range of critical systems, including:

• ICT Systems: Structured cabling, LAN/WAN, data centers, active equipment, wireless networks, voice and IP telephony, and network security.
• Airport Operational Systems: Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS), Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS), Common Use Self-Service (CUSS), Baggage Handling Systems (BHS)/Baggage Reconciliation Systems (BRS) interfaces, Airport Operational Database (AODB), master clock systems, and Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) systems.
• Security Systems: Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), access control, Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS), screening equipment (X-ray, explosive and metal detection), vehicle access control, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), and barriers.
• ELV Systems: Fire alarm systems, Building Management Systems (BMS), IP Television (IPTV), audiovisual systems, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), integrated platforms, and emergency communication systems.

Key Responsibilities

The Airport Systems Engineer ICT / ELV will be responsible for a wide array of technical and managerial tasks, including:

• Reviewing design documents, calculations, specifications, and drawings to ensure alignment with project requirements and standards.
• Assessing shop drawings and technical submittals for compliance and feasibility.
• Supporting value engineering initiatives to optimize cost, performance, and sustainability.
• Monitoring installation activities and conducting rigorous inspections to maintain quality standards.
• Reviewing contractor progress and identifying non-conformities to mitigate risks and ensure timely resolution.
• Supporting testing and commissioning processes through the review of procedures and witnessing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
• Verifying system performance, integration, and interoperability across multidisciplinary teams.
• Coordinating with stakeholders, including clients, operators, and regulatory authorities, to facilitate smooth project execution.
• Participating in project meetings, planning sessions, and progress reviews to ensure alignment with project objectives.
• Supporting handover activities, including the preparation of as-built documentation, Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals, snagging, and final acceptance.

Knowledge of Standards and Regulations

The candidate must demonstrate familiarity with a comprehensive set of international and local standards, including:

• ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs)
• IATA Airport Development and Operations Guidelines
• FAA Advisory Circulars and design standards
• NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards
• IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards
• TIA/EIA (Telecommunications Industry Association/Electronic Industries Alliance) standards
• BICSI (Building Industry Consulting Service International) standards
• Local building codes and airport security regulations
• Aviation authority requirements specific to the project location

Preferred Experience

While not mandatory, candidates with the following experience will be highly valued:

• International airport projects
• Greenfield airport developments
• Major airport expansion projects
• ORAT and airport transition programs
• Large-scale integrated airport systems
• Experience within the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region

Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, ICT Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Professional engineering registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized engineering board is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should possess a minimum of five years of relevant experience in airport systems engineering, with a proven track record in the design, implementation, and management of ICT, ELV, and security systems within airport environments.
