Position Overview

The Admission and Discharge Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless patient transitions within the healthcare facility. This position is responsible for overseeing the entire admission and discharge process with precision, efficiency, and a strong commitment to patient satisfaction. The ideal candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for patients and their families, ensuring accurate registration, verification of insurance and financial details, and coordination with clinical departments. Key Responsibilities

Admission Management

The Admission and Discharge Officer is tasked with the following responsibilities during the patient admission process:

  • Patient Registration: Welcome and register patients in a courteous and professional manner, ensuring all demographic and insurance information is accurately captured in the Hospital Information System (HIS).
  • Verification and Documentation: Verify patient identity, demographic details, and insurance coverage. Collect and process all necessary admission documents, including consent forms, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Department Coordination: Collaborate closely with nursing units and other departments to confirm bed availability and facilitate appropriate patient placement.

The role also encompasses the following discharge-related responsibilities:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience in patient admissions, discharge services, or patient affairs within a hospital or healthcare setting. Prior experience with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and insurance processes is highly advantageous.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge Base: In-depth understanding of hospital admission and discharge procedures, medical insurance processes, and healthcare regulations.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with a strong customer service orientation. Attention to detail, accuracy, and the capacity to work under pressure are essential. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills are required to manage complex and time-sensitive situations.
