Technical Application Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Application Engineer – Medium Voltage (MV) to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will leverage your deep expertise in MV switchgear, protection and control systems, and substation automation to drive project execution, develop robust technical proposals, and deliver innovative engineering solutions tailored to our clients’ needs. Your contributions will be pivotal in ensuring the successful implementation of complex electrical systems while maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Application Engineer will play a central role in the entire project lifecycle, from initial design to final commissioning. Your responsibilities will include:

• Design and Review: Develop and critically review protection and control schemes for medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) switchgear and substations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
• Technical Documentation: Prepare and validate essential engineering documents, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), protection logic diagrams, relay settings, and coordination studies, to support seamless project execution.
• Component Selection and Configuration: Select and configure critical components such as protection relays, circuit breakers, current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs), and associated equipment to optimize system performance and reliability.
• Electrical Calculations: Conduct comprehensive electrical calculations, including short-circuit analysis, protection coordination studies, and equipment sizing, to ensure system integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Bid and Proposal Support: Assist in technical bid evaluations, prepare detailed engineering proposals, and review customer specifications to align offerings with client expectations and project objectives.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, production, procurement, and commissioning teams to facilitate smooth project execution, troubleshoot technical challenges, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions.
• Technical Support: Provide expert technical support during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), commissioning, and on-site activities, ensuring that systems are installed, tested, and operated in accordance with design intent and safety protocols.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical discussions with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to address concerns, mitigate risks, and drive informed decision-making.

Requirements

To excel in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and experience:

• Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience: A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in medium and high voltage switchgear, protection engineering, and substation automation, with a proven track record in delivering complex projects.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of protection relays from leading manufacturers such as ABB, SEL, Siemens, Schneider Electric, and GE, as well as familiarity with industry standards and protocols including IEC 61850, Modbus, SCADA, and Substation Automation Systems.
• Design Tools: Proficiency in electrical engineering design tools such as AutoCAD and EPLAN, with the ability to create accurate and detailed engineering drawings and schematics.
• Technical Expertise: A strong understanding of power system protection principles, control schemes, and interlocking logic, enabling you to develop robust and reliable solutions.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
