Compressor Commissioning and Controls Engineer

The Compressor Commissioning and Controls Engineer is responsible for the global commissioning and servicing of Siemens Energy, Dresser, and non-OEM compressors and auxiliary equipment. This role serves as a critical link between customers and our company, collaborating with management, sales, and technical support to ensure service integrity and excellence.

  • Manage and lead the commissioning of compressors, control systems, and auxiliary systems, adhering to OEM specifications and quality standards.
  • Manage and troubleshoot control systems, ensuring efficient operation and problem-solving.
  • Interpret P&ID, electrical and controls documentation, and other OEM installation instructions to verify accurate installation and function.
  • Conduct trouble shooting and root cause analyses, providing detailed technical reports to clients.
  • Write comprehensive technical reports following service outages, documenting findings, actions taken, and recommendations for future improvements.
  • Maintain safety and foster a Zero-harm culture by following and enforcing all company and customer EHS policies.
  • Travel extensively for assignments, domestically, regionally, and internationally, adapting to various conditions and environments including offshore.
  • Perform duties on the day or night shift under difficult conditions, such as heat, cold, and noise, and be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Engage with clients professionally to ensure customer satisfaction, protecting company interests and identifying opportunities for additional funding.

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree with equivalent years of experience, along with a minimum of 5-7 years of directly related experience in the commissioning of turbo compressor packages and related equipment.
  • Working knowledge of compressor commissioning and associated auxiliary systems, including Dry Gas Seal systems, MCCs, electrical motors, heaters, fans, variable/frequency converters, control panels, and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with commissioning activities such as loop testing, instrument calibration, valve checks, lube oil flushing, surge control and mapping, troubleshooting, and startup execution.
  • Able to apply a broad, cross-disciplinary understanding of mechanical, instrument, electrical, and control systems to support safe, efficient commissioning and system integration.
  • Capable of interfacing with discipline specialists to resolve technical issues and ensure successful system handover.
  • Working knowledge of industrial control systems used in compressor applications, including Siemens (S7, PCS 7, T3000), Allen-Bradley, and Schneider Electric (Triconex platform) and Vibration System Commissioning (Bently Nevada 3500 system).
  • Hands-on involvement in commissioning activities such as basic configuration checks, loop testing, troubleshooting, and system verification.
  • Demonstrates a practical, “hands-on” approach with the confidence to work directly in the field, coupled with a strong willingness to learn, develop, and adapt to different control systems and technologies as required.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Energy and Dresser Rand compressors and auxiliary systems, with beneficial knowledge of other manufacturers.
  • New Unit and Service compressor commissioning experience as well as compressor equipment modification and upgrades.
  • Strong knowledge of compressor logics and process knowledge, ensuring efficient commissioning and troubleshooting of systems.
  • Skilled in writing comprehensive technical reports.
