Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Mechanical Engineer – Rotating (SME) to join our dynamic team at Worley Parsons in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for providing expert mechanical engineering support with a focus on rotating equipment, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of critical assets across various industrial projects. Your expertise will be instrumental in optimizing performance, reducing downtime, and driving operational excellence in alignment with industry best practices and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary technical authority for rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, and gearboxes, providing guidance on design, selection, installation, and maintenance strategies.
- Project Execution: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver mechanical engineering solutions for large-scale industrial projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
- Troubleshooting and Analysis: Conduct root cause failure analyses (RCFA) and performance evaluations to identify inefficiencies or defects in rotating equipment, recommending corrective actions to mitigate risks and enhance reliability.
- Design and Optimization: Develop and review mechanical designs, specifications, and drawings for rotating equipment, leveraging advanced engineering tools and methodologies to improve efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure all mechanical engineering activities adhere to international standards (e.g., API, ISO, ASME), client-specific requirements, and corporate policies to maintain operational integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a liaison between engineering teams, project managers, and clients, facilitating clear communication and alignment on technical deliverables, timelines, and budget constraints.
- Innovation and Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating emerging technologies, materials, and maintenance techniques to enhance the performance and lifecycle of rotating equipment.
- Safety and Sustainability: Promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship by integrating best practices into all engineering processes, minimizing hazards, and reducing the carbon footprint of operations.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, you must possess a strong academic background and extensive hands-on experience in mechanical engineering, with a specialization in rotating equipment. The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PE, CEng) is a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years dedicated to rotating equipment in industrial sectors such as oil & gas, petrochemicals, power generation, or mining.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards (API 610, API 617, API 674, etc.) and mechanical design principles for pumps, compressors, and turbines.
- Proficiency in engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS, or similar platforms for modeling, simulation, and analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical data, troubleshoot complex issues, and propose data-driven solutions.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with a proven track record of collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary teams and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Familiarity with maintenance strategies, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and condition monitoring techniques (vibration analysis, thermography, etc.).
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required to support project execution and site activities.
