Procurement Engineer

Position Overview

As a Procurement Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and technically compliant procurement of electrical, mechanical, and fabrication materials essential for switchgear manufacturing. Your expertise in supplier evaluation, negotiation, and material planning will directly contribute to the efficiency and success of our projects while maintaining stringent quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Procurement Engineer will be responsible for a wide range of procurement activities, including:

• Procurement & Sourcing:
  • Identify, evaluate, and select Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and qualified suppliers for critical switchgear components, including circuit breakers, contactors, relays, busbars, sheet metal, gaskets, copper bars, and other essential materials.
  • Prepare and process purchase requisitions and purchase orders in alignment with project timelines and technical specifications.
  • Source new vendors and materials to optimize cost efficiency, quality assurance, and delivery performance.
  • Negotiate competitive pricing, favorable terms, and realistic lead times with suppliers to achieve significant cost savings without compromising quality.
  • Maintain and update approved vendor lists, ensuring strict compliance with supplier qualification criteria and company standards.
• Cross-Functional Coordination:
  • Collaborate closely with estimation, design, production, warehouse, and quality teams to fully understand technical requirements and project objectives.
  • Coordinate with stores and planning departments to maintain optimal inventory levels and prevent material shortages.
  • Support the engineering team by identifying suitable material substitutions or alternative sourcing options when necessary.
• Material Planning & Control:
  • Monitor material delivery schedules to ensure seamless availability for production schedules.
  • Proactively track and resolve discrepancies related to material quality, quantity, or delivery delays.
  • Follow up on pending orders and expedite deliveries to mitigate potential production disruptions.
• Documentation & Compliance:
  • Prepare comprehensive Requests for Quotations (RFQs), purchase orders, comparison sheets, and supplier performance reports.
  • Ensure all procured materials strictly adhere to company quality standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain meticulous procurement documentation in accordance with ISO and QA-QC procedures to support audit readiness and compliance.
• Cost Optimization & Supplier Development:
  • Analyze cost trends and develop strategic initiatives to drive continuous cost reduction while maintaining quality and reliability.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on key metrics such as quality, cost-effectiveness, and delivery performance.
  • Participate in supplier audits and development programs to foster long-term, high-performing partnerships.
• Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities:
  • Adhere rigorously to all company QHSE policies, procedures, and legal requirements to ensure a safe and sustainable workplace.
  • Promptly identify and report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses to the appropriate supervisor or QHSE team.
  • Actively participate in mandatory safety inductions, HSE training sessions, safety meetings, emergency drills, and root cause investigations.
  • Follow established emergency response protocols, including evacuation plans, fire response procedures, and first aid protocols where applicable.
  • Implement measures to minimize environmental impact, such as proper waste disposal and immediate reporting of spills or leaks.
  • Contribute innovative suggestions to enhance Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures, demonstrating a commitment to continual improvement.

Qualifications & Competencies

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 to 6 years of hands-on procurement experience, preferably within the switchgear or electrical manufacturing industry.
• Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear products from leading manufacturers such as ABB, Hyundai, Schneider, and Siemens.
• Skills:
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills with a proven ability to secure favorable terms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications in procurement, supply chain management, or quality assurance are advantageous.
