Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Technical Application Engineer to join our team in the MENAT region. This pivotal role is responsible for driving business development within the Grid Automation (GA) market, ensuring product prequalification, and maintaining a deep understanding of competitors and market dynamics. The successful candidate will provide Level 2 technical support, foster customer intimacy across key industries such as Utilities, Oil & Gas (O&G), and collaborate closely with GE’s sales, engineering, and services teams. Reporting to the GA Technical Application Engineer (TAE) Leader for MENAT, this position plays a critical role in shaping regional strategies and delivering innovative solutions to meet customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
The Lead Technical Application Engineer will be accountable for a diverse range of responsibilities, including:
- Technical Marketing & Opportunity Creation: Develop and execute technical marketing strategies to generate business opportunities based on installed base data and market intelligence. Create compelling value propositions tailored to regional customer requirements.
- Application Support (Level 2): Provide expert technical assistance to clients across the MENAT region, addressing inquiries, developing customized solutions, and supporting scheme engineering. Conduct in-depth field performance analysis to optimize system reliability and efficiency.
- Promotions & Approvals: Lead product launch initiatives, including presentations, exhibitions, site trials, and spec-in activities. Collaborate with marketing teams to ensure seamless product approvals aligned with regional priorities and regulatory requirements.
- Product Problem Resolution: Investigate and resolve complex product issues reported by customers, coordinating with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions. Take ownership of escalated non-quality issues to ensure timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
- Commercial Support (Tendering & Negotiation): Assist the tendering team by analyzing customer technical and commercial requirements. Provide strategic input during contract negotiations to secure favorable terms and enhance project viability.
- Market Monitoring & Competitive Intelligence: Enhance awareness of GA solutions by tracking competitor activities, market share, and evolving customer specifications. Conduct market research to identify trends and opportunities for growth.
- Product Management: Stay abreast of product lifecycle changes, including obsoletions, new releases, and firmware upgrades. Provide guidance to customers on product features and deliver tailored support to meet regional strategy objectives.
Required Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years in commissioning protection products, applications, and engineering projects within the Grid Automation field, including hands-on site experience.
- Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of Protection & Automation products, particularly EHV ranges such as UR, SR, 8 Series, and MiCOM. A strong understanding of competitor products is essential.
- Industry Knowledge: Proven experience in Utilities, Industrial, and Oil & Gas applications, including motors, generators, feeders, transformers, and ATS schemes. Prior experience in O&G is highly advantageous.
- Travel Requirements: Willingness and ability to travel up to 60% within the MENAT region as needed.
- Communication Skills: Fluency in English with exceptional written and verbal communication abilities to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
