Position Overview
The Senior Product Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Al Khobar. This pivotal role is designed for a seasoned professional who will spearhead the design, development, and enhancement of advanced oilfield products. The Senior Product Engineer will drive research and development initiatives, ensuring products meet the highest standards of performance, cost-efficiency, and compliance. This position requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting production challenges, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and optimizing processes to deliver superior engineering solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of industry standards and a passion for innovation in product engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Design Development & Product Engineering
- Product Design Leadership: Lead the design and development of critical oilfield products, including gate valves, hammer unions, OCTG products, API wellhead and pressure control equipment, and wireline tools, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and customer requirements.
- Engineering Documentation: Develop, review, and approve comprehensive engineering drawings, 3D models, calculations, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with project objectives.
- Design Verification & Compliance: Perform rigorous engineering design verification and prepare detailed Design Verification Reports (DVRs) in accordance with API 6A, 16A, 16C, 5CT, and 5B standards to validate product integrity and performance.
- Product Optimization: Drive continuous improvement through design optimization, strategic material selection, and value engineering initiatives to enhance product functionality, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM): Oversee PLM activities, including product data governance, engineering change workflows, and lifecycle documentation, to ensure seamless product evolution and compliance with organizational standards.
- Change Management: Issue engineering change orders, technical circulars, and controlled document updates to communicate and implement design modifications across the organization efficiently.
Product Management & Customer Support
- Technical Liaison: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer inquiries, providing expert guidance on product applications, technical clarifications, and troubleshooting to ensure customer satisfaction and operational success.
- Proposal & Bid Development: Collaborate with the Commercial team to prepare and review technical proposals, quotations, and bid documentation, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and organizational capabilities.
- Customer Engagement: Conduct customer design reviews and technical presentations to secure design approvals, foster trust, and strengthen client relationships.
- Contract & Order Review: Assess technical feasibility, identify potential risks, and ensure alignment with engineering capabilities by reviewing contracts and sales orders in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
- Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive technical product catalogues, datasheets, and application guidelines to support sales, marketing, and field service teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration with Operations
- Manufacturing Alignment: Work closely with Manufacturing teams to ensure design intent is accurately translated into production processes, route cards, and shop-floor instructions, minimizing discrepancies and enhancing efficiency.
- Procurement Coordination: Collaborate with Procurement to define material specifications, identify approved vendors, and validate material certifications and traceability to uphold product quality and compliance.
- Quality Assurance: Partner with the Quality department to establish inspection and test plans (ITPs), define acceptance criteria, and resolve non-conformances to maintain the highest standards of product excellence.
- Production Planning Support: Provide technical input on capacity planning, lead times, and manufacturability assessments to optimize production schedules and resource allocation.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) reviews and root cause analysis to identify opportunities for quality enhancements and operational improvements.
Audit Participation & Standards Compliance
- Regulatory Compliance: Actively participate in and represent the organization during API 6A, 16A, 16C, 5CT, and 5B monogram and licensing audits to ensure adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Documentation & Record Keeping: Maintain audit readiness by ensuring engineering records, design files, and compliance documentation are accurate, up-to-date, and readily accessible for internal and external audits.
- Industry Standards Adherence: Ensure all product designs, manufacturing processes, and documentation comply with applicable API standards, international codes (ASME, NACE, ISO), and customer-specific requirements to mitigate risks and uphold organizational integrity.
