Automation Engineer-Drives & Controls

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automation Engineer specializing in Drives & Controls to join our dynamic team at LM Systems, based in Dammam. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced automation systems that enhance operational efficiency, precision, and reliability across our industrial processes. Your expertise will be instrumental in optimizing drive systems, control algorithms, and automation solutions to meet the evolving demands of our projects and clients.

Key Responsibilities

• System Design & Development: Lead the design, configuration, and programming of automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and motion control systems, with a focus on drives and control technologies. Develop and implement control strategies to ensure seamless integration with industrial equipment.
• Drive Systems Optimization: Analyze, troubleshoot, and enhance the performance of variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo drives, and other motion control components. Ensure optimal efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness in drive applications.
• Automation Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automation solutions into existing infrastructure. Validate system functionality through rigorous testing, simulation, and commissioning processes.
• Technical Documentation: Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including system schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational manuals. Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for safety and performance.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to drives and control systems. Provide on-site or remote support to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency gains in automation processes. Recommend and implement upgrades to hardware, software, or control algorithms to enhance system performance.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure all automation solutions adhere to relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies. Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to safeguard personnel and equipment.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in automation, control systems, or drives technology are advantageous.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar), HMI/SCADA systems, and motion control technologies. Experience with drive systems, including VFDs, servo motors, and PID control loops, is essential.
• Industry Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in automation engineering, with a focus on drives and controls. Experience in industrial sectors such as oil & gas, manufacturing, or energy is preferred.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical abilities to diagnose complex technical issues and develop effective solutions. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software for system analysis.
• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with stakeholders, project teams, and clients. Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
• Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
