OBU Maintenance Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated OBU Maintenance Engineer to join our dynamic team at ALSTOM in Riyadh. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of Onboard Units (OBUs) within our rail systems. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the operational efficiency of our advanced railway infrastructure, contributing directly to the seamless movement of passengers and goods across our network.

Key Responsibilities

• System Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on OBUs to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted service. Diagnose technical issues using advanced diagnostic tools and methodologies, and implement effective solutions to restore functionality promptly.
• Technical Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, including work orders, repair logs, and inspection reports. Ensure strict adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and ALSTOM’s internal policies to uphold the highest levels of safety and quality.
• Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and operational staff, to coordinate maintenance schedules and resolve complex technical challenges. Provide clear and concise technical guidance to junior staff and participate in training sessions to enhance team capabilities.
• Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, equipment upgrades, and technological advancements to enhance the performance and longevity of OBUs. Propose and implement innovative solutions that align with ALSTOM’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
• Safety & Risk Management: Prioritize safety in all maintenance activities by adhering to established safety protocols and conducting risk assessments. Ensure that all work is performed in a manner that mitigates hazards and protects both personnel and infrastructure.

Qualifications & Competencies

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., in railway systems, signal engineering, or maintenance management) will be considered an advantage.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of OBUs or similar onboard railway systems. Prior experience with rail signaling, communication systems, or related technologies is highly desirable.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other specialized equipment. Strong knowledge of OBU components, including processors, sensors, communication modules, and power systems. Familiarity with PLC programming, SCADA systems, and railway-specific software is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Certifications & Licenses: Valid professional certifications in electrical safety, hazardous materials handling, or railway-specific maintenance are preferred. Compliance with local regulatory requirements for engineering practice in Saudi Arabia is mandatory.
