Procurement Consultant – Pharmaceutical Category Management & Strategic Sourcing

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Procurement Consultant – Pharmaceutical Category Management & Strategic Sourcing to join our esteemed client’s team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a 6 to 12-month contract role with the potential for extension, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to critical procurement initiatives within the healthcare sector, with a specialized focus on pharmaceuticals. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of proven experience in sourcing and procurement, preferably within the healthcare industry, and will operate at a managerial level to drive strategic category management and cost optimization.

Key Responsibilities

The Procurement Consultant will play a pivotal role in leading strategic sourcing and category management initiatives for pharmaceutical products. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management: Develop and implement comprehensive supplier strategies to ensure a robust and reliable supply chain for pharmaceutical products. This includes identifying, evaluating, and negotiating with suppliers to secure favorable terms while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Category Management: Lead the end-to-end management of the pharmaceutical category, including market analysis, demand forecasting, and lifecycle management of products. Ensure alignment with organizational goals and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Cost Optimization & Savings Delivery: Drive sustainable cost savings through strategic negotiations, volume consolidation, and process improvements without compromising on quality or patient care standards. Implement best practices to enhance procurement efficiency and effectiveness.
• Supply Continuity & Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and mitigate supply chain risks to ensure uninterrupted availability of critical pharmaceutical products. Develop contingency plans and foster strong relationships with key suppliers to address potential disruptions.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including clinical, finance, and operations, to align procurement strategies with broader organizational objectives. Provide expert guidance and support to internal stakeholders on procurement-related matters.
• Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to all relevant procurement policies, regulatory standards, and ethical guidelines. Maintain accurate records and documentation to support audit trails and compliance reporting.

Qualifications & Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Pharmacy, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CIPS, CSCP) is a plus.
• Experience: Minimum of five years of progressive experience in procurement or sourcing, with at least three years focused on the healthcare or pharmaceutical sector. Prior experience in a managerial or consultative role is highly desirable.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in procurement software, ERP systems, and advanced Excel. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market trends and data to inform decision-making.
• Soft Skills: Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and drive change within the organization.
• Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is advantageous.
