Your Role as an Application Engineer
As an Application Engineer at Eaton, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our customers by providing technical expertise and innovative solutions tailored to their unique power management needs. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of activities, from tendering and bill of materials (BOM) activities for cable channel systems to delivering precise technical and commercial solutions. You will be responsible for creating accurate engineering drawings, submittals, and final project documentation that meet stringent customer requirements. Your role will involve close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including local assembly, manufacturing, operations, and quality departments, to ensure seamless execution of orders and continuous improvement in product offerings and processes.
In this dynamic role, you will prioritize and manage multi-functional tasks, including specification reviews, product selection, cost/price development, and proposal generation. You will also contribute to cost optimization initiatives and material localization projects to enhance efficiency and competitiveness. Your ability to interpret complex electrical layouts, single-line diagrams, and cable routing plans will be essential in designing optimal cable tray systems that adhere to industry standards such as NEC, IEC, NEMA, and BS.
Key Responsibilities
- Tendering & Bill of Materials: Develop and manage tendering activities for cable channel, containment, and ladder systems, ensuring accuracy in technical and commercial proposals.
- Engineering Drawings & Submittals: Prepare detailed engineering drawings and submittals that meet customer specifications and industry standards.
- Purchase Order Technical Tasks: Oversee technical tasks from drawing preparation to converting them into bill of materials and releasing them for production.
- Project Documentation: Compile and deliver final project documentation in accordance with customer order requirements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with local assembly teams, manufacturing, operations, and quality departments to resolve technical clarifications and ensure smooth order execution.
- Cost Optimization & Localization: Participate in cost reduction initiatives and material localization projects to enhance efficiency and meet customer demands.
- Technical Expertise: Interpret electrical layouts, single-line diagrams, and cable routing plans to design optimal cable tray systems, considering load capacity, spacing, and support systems.
- Client & Consultant Engagement: Handle incoming inquiries, maintain close communication with the Sales team, and respond to client/consultant comments on technical submittals.
- Product Positioning & Costing: Implement strategic product positioning and cost optimization to align with customer requirements, end-user specifications, and international standards.
- Industry Standards & Applications: Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, NEMA, BS) and possess knowledge of applications in sectors such as data centers, oil & gas (onshore/offshore), and EMEA end-user standards (e.g., ARAMCO, ADNOC, ONGC).
Qualifications & Skills
To excel in this role, you must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification. A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience is required, with a strong foundation in cable management systems, engineering design, and technical documentation. Proficiency in interpreting electrical layouts, single-line diagrams, and cable routing plans is essential, along with a deep understanding of cable tray types (ladder, perforated, wire mesh) and materials (GI, SS, Aluminum, FRP).
You should have hands-on experience in preparing detailed bills of materials (BOM), cost estimations, and technical submittals. Familiarity with industry standards and the ability to design cable tray layouts considering load capacity, spacing, and support systems are critical. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with effective communication and teamwork abilities, will enable you to thrive in this collaborative environment. Attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and proficiency in software tools such as MS-Office, SAP, AutoCAD, E3D, and SolidWorks are also required.
