Geotechnical Lab Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geotechnical Lab Manager to join our team in Dammam. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the operations of our geotechnical laboratory, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry regulations. Key Responsibilities

• Laboratory Leadership: Lead and manage the geotechnical laboratory team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Oversee daily operations, workflow optimization, and resource allocation to meet project deadlines and client expectations.
• Technical Oversight: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of geotechnical testing and analysis by implementing rigorous quality control measures. Supervise the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment to uphold industry standards and regulatory compliance.
• Project Support: Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and deliver tailored geotechnical solutions. Provide expert guidance on testing methodologies, data interpretation, and reporting to support informed decision-making.
• Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of local and international geotechnical standards, codes, and best practices. Ensure all laboratory activities adhere to relevant regulations, including ISO, ASTM, and other applicable guidelines, to maintain Fugro’s reputation for quality and reliability.
• Team Development: Mentor and develop laboratory staff through training, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities. Foster a safe, inclusive, and high-performance work environment that encourages innovation and accountability.
• Budget and Resource Management: Oversee the laboratory’s budget, including procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies. Optimize resource utilization to maximize efficiency while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
• Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Prioritize the health and safety of laboratory personnel by enforcing strict safety protocols and promoting a culture of risk awareness. Ensure all activities comply with Fugro’s HSE policies and local regulations.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you must possess a combination of technical expertise, leadership acumen, and industry experience. The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PMP, CEng) is a plus.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical laboratory management or a related field, with a proven track record of leading teams and managing complex projects.
• In-depth knowledge of geotechnical testing methodologies, including soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and material testing. Familiarity with standards such as ASTM, AASHTO, and BS is essential.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Proficiency in both English and Arabic is preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in laboratory equipment calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) is advantageous.
• Commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement, with a keen eye for detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
