As part of the Accounting Department, the Accounting Clerk – Income Auditor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of all revenue-related processes. This position is integral to maintaining the financial health of the hotel by meticulously auditing income streams, verifying transactions, and safeguarding against discrepancies. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of financial accountability.

Key Responsibilities

The Accounting Clerk – Income Auditor is responsible for overseeing the Income Audit functions within the Accounting Department, ensuring that all hotel revenues and receipts are accurately recorded, audited, and reported. The role involves collaborating closely with various departments, including Night Audit, Front Desk, Food and Beverage, and Accounts Receivable, to validate financial transactions and maintain compliance with Hyatt International’s stringent auditing protocols. Below are the core duties and responsibilities associated with this position:

  • Revenue Verification and Auditing: Conduct thorough audits of daily revenues from all hotel operations, including Rooms, Food and Beverage, SPA, Retail Shops, Laundry, Business Center, and other operated departments. Ensure that all revenues are properly recorded, reconciled, and aligned with supporting documentation.
  • Daily and Monthly Reporting: Prepare and summarize revenue data required for daily and monthly financial reports. Provide department heads with accurate revenue figures to support their profit center management and decision-making processes.
  • System Monitoring and Data Integrity: Implement and maintain a robust system for monitoring data input by operational personnel. Verify the accuracy of transactions recorded in the Opera and Scala systems, including the Guest Ledger, City Ledger, and credit card postings.
  • Cash and Currency Audits: Perform surprise cash counts of cashier floats and foreign currency holdings to ensure compliance with financial policies. Investigate and report any shortages, overages, or irregularities to the Director of Finance promptly.
  • POS and Transaction Audits: Audit daily revenues and statistical information from Point-of-Sale (POS) systems to confirm the accuracy of transactions and supporting documents. Verify the sequential use of Food and Beverage checks, official receipts, and other financial forms.
  • Compliance and Investigations: Review paid-outs, allowance vouchers, complimentary rooms, and house use transactions for proper authorization and documentation. Investigate late charges, skippers, and questionable guest ledger movements, forwarding details to the credit section for further action as needed.
  • Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with Night Audit, Front Desk, and Food and Beverage Cashiers to audit their processes and ensure adherence to financial controls. Provide guidance and support to department heads regarding revenue recognition and financial reporting.
  • Surprise Audits and Spot Checks: Conduct unannounced audits of rooms, SPA and Fitness Center attendance, car park collections, and other operational areas to verify compliance with financial and procedural standards. Spot-check room rates, house use transactions, and entertainment checks for accuracy and propriety.
  • Month-End Closure: Ensure that all employee City Ledger Accounts are closed at month-end and that all financial discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner. Review and reconcile Housekeeping discrepancy reports, notifying relevant personnel of any concerns.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates should possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with 2-3 years of experience in a similar auditing or accounting position within the hospitality industry. Proficiency in financial software, particularly Opera and Scala, is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability are essential.
