Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Warehouse Chemist to join our team in Saudi Arabia. This critical role is responsible for overseeing the safe, compliant, and efficient management of chemicals and dangerous goods within our warehouse operations. The Warehouse Chemist will play a pivotal role in ensuring the receipt, inspection, classification, storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials adhere to stringent local and international chemical safety regulations. By providing expert technical guidance, this position supports warehouse operations, mitigates risks, maintains regulatory compliance, and drives continuous improvement in chemical management practices. The Warehouse Chemist will also collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Procurement, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), Logistics, and regulatory authorities, to uphold the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chemical Receipt and Verification: Receive, inspect, identify, classify, and verify chemicals and dangerous goods to ensure full compliance with purchase specifications and regulatory requirements, including GHS, IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), IMDG Code, ADR, and local mandates.
  • Safe Storage and Handling: Ensure the secure storage, segregation, handling, and transportation of chemicals in strict accordance with applicable safety standards and regulations. Conduct routine inspections of chemical storage areas and recommend corrective actions to address safety, environmental, and compliance risks.
  • Inventory and Documentation Management: Monitor chemical inventory levels, track shelf life, maintain optimal storage conditions, and ensure accurate record-keeping of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and regulatory documentation. Implement best practices for inventory management to prevent contamination, degradation, or unauthorized access.
  • Risk Assessment and Compatibility Analysis: Perform comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards and evaluate chemical compatibility. Develop and implement strategies to minimize risks and support safe warehouse operations.
  • Hazardous Waste Management: Coordinate the safe and compliant disposal of expired, obsolete, or hazardous chemicals, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and internal policies.
  • Training and Awareness: Provide expert technical guidance and conduct training sessions for warehouse personnel on chemical safety, hazardous material handling, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and emergency response procedures to foster a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Procurement, HSE, Logistics, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance, support audits, investigate incidents, and drive continuous improvement in chemical management practices. Serve as a key resource for regulatory inquiries and inspections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Chemical Technology, or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of hands-on experience in chemical warehouse operations, hazardous materials management, laboratory settings, or industrial chemical environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical properties, hazard classification, compatibility, and hazardous material handling practices, with a strong understanding of GHS, IATA DGR, IMDG Code, ADR, and local regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and applying Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to implement safe chemical storage, segregation, and handling practices.
  • Experience conducting chemical risk assessments, incident investigations, and developing corrective and preventive actions to mitigate risks.
  • Solid understanding of warehouse operations, inventory management systems, hazardous waste management protocols, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and warehouse management systems.
