Material Engineer

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Material Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will play a critical part in ensuring that all construction materials adhere to project specifications, contractual obligations, and industry standards. Your responsibilities will encompass managing the material approval process, fostering seamless collaboration with consultants and suppliers, and providing essential support to project teams to facilitate timely procurement and successful project delivery across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and landscape projects.

Key Responsibilities

The Material Engineer will be tasked with a range of responsibilities designed to uphold the highest standards of quality and compliance in all construction materials. These include:

• Specification Review and Compliance: Analyzing project specifications and material requirements to ensure alignment with contract documents and industry regulations.
• Material Submittal Management: Preparing, submitting, and tracking material submittals for approval by consultants and clients, ensuring timely processing and adherence to project timelines.
• Technical Evaluation: Assessing technical data sheets, product certifications, samples, and manufacturer documentation to verify compliance with project and regulatory standards.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborating with procurement, suppliers, consultants, and project teams to expedite material approvals and resolve logistical challenges.
• Quality Assurance and Testing: Conducting material inspections and coordinating laboratory testing to confirm that all materials meet project specifications, international standards, and client requirements.
• Issue Resolution: Addressing material-related technical issues in partnership with design and site teams to minimize project disruptions and ensure seamless execution.
• Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintaining meticulous records of approved materials, submittals, test reports, and compliance documentation to support audit trails and regulatory compliance.
• Cost-Effective Material Selection: Supporting project teams in identifying and selecting materials that balance technical compliance with cost efficiency without compromising quality.
• Quality Monitoring: Overseeing material quality throughout the procurement, delivery, and installation phases to mitigate risks and ensure project integrity.
• Compliance and Standards: Ensuring adherence to quality management procedures, company standards, and relevant construction codes, including ASTM, AASHTO, BS, SASO, and others.
• Project Engagement: Actively participating in project meetings focused on material approvals, technical coordination, and strategic decision-making to drive project success.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and possess relevant experience:

• Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of five years of hands-on experience as a Material Engineer within the construction industry, with a proven track record in infrastructure, landscape, or civil construction projects.
• Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of a wide range of construction materials, including but not limited to concrete, asphalt, aggregates, hardscape, irrigation systems, steel, and finishing materials.
• Process Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with material submittals, technical evaluations, laboratory testing, and navigating consultant approval processes in compliance with industry standards.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with international construction standards such as ASTM, AASHTO, BS, SASO, and other applicable codes to ensure material compliance.
• Regional Experience: Prior work experience in Saudi Arabia or the broader GCC region is highly advantageous and will be considered a significant asset.
