Role Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Commercial Manager to lead the commercial, contractual, and financial management of our high-profile construction and landscape projects. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing project budgets, contracts, procurement, and financial reporting while ensuring robust commercial governance and driving profitability. The ideal candidate will combine strategic commercial acumen with hands-on experience in large-scale infrastructure or construction projects, ensuring seamless execution from tender to project closeout.

Key Responsibilities

The Commercial Manager will play a central role in shaping the financial and contractual success of our projects. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Commercial Leadership: Spearhead all commercial and contractual activities across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with project requirements, company policies, and industry standards.
• Budget & Financial Management: Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive project budgets, cost plans, and financial forecasts to maintain fiscal discipline and maximize profitability.
• Procurement & Contract Administration: Lead procurement strategies, contract negotiations, and subcontractor onboarding, ensuring timely and compliant agreement finalization.
• Payment & Claims Oversight: Evaluate, certify, and process subcontractor payment applications, variations, and claims while mitigating commercial risks and identifying optimization opportunities.
• Cost Control & Financial Reporting: Implement rigorous cost control processes, conduct cash flow analyses, and deliver accurate financial performance reports to stakeholders.
• Tender & Pricing Strategy: Review tender documents, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), technical specifications, and pricing strategies to ensure competitive and sustainable project bids.
• Change Management: Prepare, negotiate, and execute change orders, contractual claims, and dispute resolutions in accordance with project and legal requirements.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, finance teams, and legal advisors to align commercial objectives with project execution.
• Project Closeout: Support the finalization of projects through comprehensive closeout activities, including final accounts, reconciliation, and documentation.
• Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients, consultants, and key suppliers to foster long-term business growth.

Qualifications & Requirements

To excel in this role, you will bring a blend of academic excellence and practical experience. The ideal candidate will possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Commercial Management, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
• A minimum of 5+ years of commercial experience in construction, infrastructure, or landscape contracting, with a proven track record in large-scale projects.
• In-depth knowledge of contract types (e.g., FIDIC or equivalent), cost control principles, and commercial risk management frameworks.
• Hands-on experience in claims management, variations, procurement, and financial reporting, with a keen eye for detail and compliance.
• Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and communication skills, enabling you to influence stakeholders and drive commercial decisions.
• Proficiency in commercial software and tools, such as ERP systems and cost control software, to streamline financial and contractual processes.
• Professional certifications such as MRICS or RICS are highly desirable and will be considered a significant advantage.
