Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The Literacy Coach will play a multifaceted role within the school community, with responsibilities that include:

• Curriculum Development and Implementation: Collaborate with teachers to design, refine, and implement literacy programs that align with educational standards and best practices. This includes creating engaging lesson plans, selecting appropriate instructional materials, and integrating technology to enhance learning outcomes.
• Teacher Mentorship and Professional Development: Provide ongoing support and guidance to teachers through one-on-one coaching, group workshops, and classroom observations. The goal is to enhance instructional techniques, promote differentiated learning, and ensure consistency in literacy instruction across grade levels.
• Student Assessment and Intervention: Conduct regular assessments to identify students’ literacy strengths and areas for improvement. Develop and implement targeted intervention strategies to support struggling readers and writers, ensuring that all students achieve grade-level proficiency.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize assessment data to track student progress, evaluate the effectiveness of literacy programs, and make data-driven decisions. Prepare comprehensive reports for stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, and parents, to communicate insights and recommendations.
• Community Engagement and Collaboration: Foster strong partnerships with parents, guardians, and community organizations to promote literacy beyond the classroom. Organize and participate in literacy-related events, such as book drives, reading challenges, and parent workshops, to cultivate a love for reading and learning.
• Resource Management: Oversee the selection, procurement, and organization of literacy resources, including books, digital tools, and supplementary materials. Ensure that these resources are accessible to teachers and students and are utilized effectively to support instructional goals.

Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed.) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. Advanced degrees or certifications in literacy education, curriculum development, or related fields are highly desirable.
• Professional Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in literacy education, teaching, or coaching. Prior experience in a junior school setting, preferably in a leadership or mentorship role, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of improving literacy outcomes for students.
• Skills and Competencies: Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Proficiency in data analysis, instructional technology, and curriculum design.
